Netflix has announced that it will be airing a new Lady Gaga documentary about the super star's life during the past year. Gaga has gone through mutiple ups and downs over the past twelve months or so, including the release of her hit album Joanne, the announcement of her first feature film with Bradley Cooper A Star is Born, her Super Bowl performance and her split from former fiance actor Taylor Kinney.
The documentary titled Gaga: Five Foot Two, which alludes to the singer's short stature, is set for release on Netflix on September 22, 2017 and is aimed at showing a unguarded look at Gaga during the past year. The list of creatives on the film include producer Heather Parry for Live Nation Productions, Bobby Campbell for Mermaid Films and executive producers Michael Rapino, Kim Ray, Lisa Nishimura, and Benjamin Cotner.
In a new report by Variety, Lisa Nishimura, VP of original documentaries for Netflix, commented on the upcoming documentary and Moukarbel's work. Here is what she said and a look at the documentary poster:
“It is a rare moment when one is invited behind the curtain to witness the raw truth of an individual, even more so when that person happens to be one of the most recognizable, influential and scrutinized public figures in culture today. Director Chris Moukarbel deftly brings us into Lady Gaga’s intimate world; allowing us to experience the drive, conflict, passion, complexity and deeply personal creative process behind this singular artist.”
This is not the first time Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, has been the focus of a documentary about her whirlwind career. In 2011 Gaga released Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball on HBO, which documented the star as she preformed her concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City and showed concert footage as well as pre-concert and backstage content. Gaga has also made her foray into television with her Golden Globe award winning performance as the Countess on FX and Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story: Hotel, which garnered critical praise for her first time acting.
Gaga: Five Foot Two is sure to reveal much about the star, in a teaser Gaga revealed on her Instagram she tearfully states, "I'm alone every night. And all these people will leave, right? They will leave, and then I'll be alone. And I go from everyone touching me all day and talking at me all day to total silence." which may or may not allude to her split from Taylor Kinney. So we know, if anything, that this documentary will be emotional for little monsters and viewers alike.
Gaga: Five Foot Two premieres September 22 on Netflix.
