Anyone who says that movies are getting 'too darn serious' these days clearly isn't keeping up with Machete Kills. Director Robert Rodriguez's over-the-top action film centered on the titular assassin seems to be bringing together one truly ragtag group of actors and actresses, ranging from Mel Gibson to Lady Gaga.
With the latter known more for her voice and outrageous fashion sense (it's surprising she and Rodriguez haven't worked together until now) it makes sense that the newest trailer for the film should feature her upcoming single, 'Aura.' Surprisingly, the pop diva's next track actually fits fairly well alongside vehicular combat and excessive violence (we think that's a compliment).
Lady Gaga will be portraying a character by the name of La Chameleón, who is only one of several femme fatales set to fight either against or alongside Machete (Danny Trejo) - joined by similarly-named thugs played by Antonio Banderas, Walton Goggins and Oscar-winner Cuba Gooding, Jr.
Filling out the female ranks of the film are Luz (Michelle Rodriguez), Desdemona (Sofia Vergara), and Killjoy (Alexa Vega), the last of which stars in the latest character poster, showing the young actress all grown up from her starring role in the Spy Kids series.
UPDATE: We now have a gallery of Machete Kills images and a clip of femme fatale Sofia Vergara:

Even with so many leading ladies, it seems the odds are in Charlie Sheen's favor where scene-stealing is concerned (if the glimpses of his role as President of the United States is any indication). Sheen (or in this case, 'Carlos Estevez') may be viewed by some as carrying so much baggage off-set as to be a distraction in almost any film, but for Machete Kills, that doesn't look like it will be a problem. After all, Mel Gibson is starring alongside him.
The combination of the film with Lady Gaga's vocal talents is yet another sign of what Rodriguez meant when he said this take on Machete would be "like a James Bond movie" in terms of scale and audacity. However, the director has confirmed that Gaga made such a strong impression in her audition, he's carved a spot for her in Sin City 2 as well. Is this the start of a beautiful friendship?
Machete Kills opens in U.S. theaters on October 11th, 2013.
