L.A. Confidential writer, James Ellroy, is launching a true-crime podcast. Known for penning a sequence of novels called L.A. Quartet, which includes The Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere, L.A. Confidential, and White Jazz, Ellroy has spent most of his career tapping into the crime fiction world. Dubbed the “Demon Dog of American Crime Fiction,” Ellroy is a native of Los Angeles who has utilized his familiarity with the City of Angels to infuse its true unsolved crimes and mysteries with fictional and real-life characters. Now, the famed author is using his expertise in a new medium.

Per Deadline, Ellroy has partnered with Audio Up to produce and narrate the true-crime podcast, Hollywood Death Trip. Slated for a five-part series, Hollywood Death Trip will dive into the mayhem that occurred in LA after a series of notable mid-century murders. Set to debut in August, the podcast will arrive shortly after Elloy’s latest novel, Widespread Panic.

Of course, podcasts continue to grow in popularity, and Ellroy is the ideal choice to take the reins on a true-crime podcast. Indeed, listeners can expect to experience a roller coaster of emotions from the final installment that will lead Ellroy to dive into the events of the 1958 murder of his mother, Geneva Odelia.
