As one of the world's most famous celebrities, Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Kylie Jenner is no stranger to scrutiny for her mistakes over the years. As the fourth most-followed person on Instagram, every move Kylie makes is considered public interest.

Whether it is how much money she earns or the alterations made to her body, Kylie's life is always a topic of debate for fans and trolls alike. This leaves minimal leeway for the Kylie Cosmetics founder to make a wrong and potentially offensive decision, particularly those regarded as disrespectful to minorities.

Recently, a photoshoot of Kylie from 2015 for Interview magazine has resurfaced, showing the able-bodied reality star posing in a wheelchair. People were quick to call out the misuse of the chair as a fashion statement on social media, labeling the move as ableism. Unfortunately, this has not been Kylie's only career move that has fallen under scrutiny. Despite being a young woman under worldwide surveillance, many argue that Kylie's management team should be ensuring that such mistakes are avoided. Apologies to Kris Jenner – here is a list of Kylie's worst mistakes so far.

Blackfishing

In a Twitter post in March 2020, Kylie wore a green, leopard-print one-piece with curly caramel hair and a noticeably darker complexion. Fans were quick to compare the photograph to artist Beyonce, accusing Kylie of blackfishing. "Blackfishing" is commonly used when white women capitalize on the "exotic"' looks of historically oppressed minorities, such as those with African or Arab ancestry. In response to the image on Twitter, one user wrote, "The fact that this has become normal among non-Black women is so f*cking racist and annoying. I want this trend of stereotyping, mocking, literally stealing faces from and stealing businesses from Black women to end." The term is not uncommon within discussions of the Kardashian family.

Blackface

Unfortunately, Kylie's incident on Twitter in appropriating black features wasn't her first. In 2015, Kylie shared an Instagram post of a shoot in collaboration with makeup artist Joyce Bonelli where the reality TV star appeared to be in blackface. It is unclear if her appearance was the result of makeup, lighting, or digital editing.

Australian Bushfire Stories

In another Instagram-related event, Kylie found herself facing criticism again after posting a story related to the Australian bushfires in 2019. After burning for six months at the time, the fires had devastated the country, with an estimated 800 million wildlife killed in New South Wales alone. "Over half a BILLION animals have been killed in Australia … This breaks my heart," the beauty mogul shared. What was first a thoughtful message was soon criticized, as Kylie's following post boasted her new Louis Vuitton slippers made of real mink fur. After facing backlash for her image, People magazine reported that Kylie donated $1 million to the Australia relief effort.

False Billionaire Status

In 2018, Kylie was featured on the cover of Forbes magazine as the youngest-ever self-made billionaire. While speculation online argued that Jenner should not be considered self-made, Forbes later claimed she should also not be considered a billionaire. The details of Kylie's billionaire status became unclear when it was discovered that Kylie Cosmetics was significantly smaller and less profitable than what Forbes was lead to believe. The founder was also accused of forging tax returns, among other documentation used to prove her earnings. Forbes later reported that Kylie and Kris Jenner denied all claims that Kylie had lied or that the tax returns sent contained false numbers. In June 2020, Forbes recalculated Kylie's personal fortune to be at an estimated $900 million.
