Kylie launched her makeup brand in 2015, and at the time, it was the biggest celebrity makeup brand in the world. Unfortunately, the brand has not been able to sustain its success. Fans have since grown tired of Kylie's advertising and think if she wants to stay in business, she needs a complete rebrand of her company. Kylie has been under fire for over-sexualizing her advertisements and making it unclear what she is selling. Instead of showing off her Kylie Cosmetics products, she uses her branding to post sexy photos of herself.
There have recently been many questions about how successful the Kar-Jenners brands actually are. While Kylie's older sister Kim Kardashian's brand SKIMS is said to be worth $3.2 billion, their other businesses don't seem to be so popular. Kim recently shut down her cosmetics brand KKW Beauty in order to rebrand, now that she's no longer married to Kanye West and has dropped his last name. The star has since released a skincare line called SKKN but is already facing a lawsuit and a lot of backlash from fans over her high prices and mediocre products. While the Kar-Jenners praise themselves for their strong work ethic and business mentalities, fans haven't been receiving their recent endeavors so well.
Kylie Cosmetics is under fire again after fans disapprove of a recent photo Kylie posted to promote her new lipgloss. After deleting her original photo, Kylie shared a new photo and video of herself wearing a liquid-drenched dress meant to look as if it'd been covered in lipgloss. Unfortunately, fans were not pleased with Kylie's fashion choice. Reddit user geminieyye shared Kylie's post to the website, and fans did not hold back their opinions on the disturbing dress. "What in the Jesus Christ is that?," disgusted commenter FunctionSudden7981 asked, while another mentioned the dress made them nauseous.
Other fans pointed out how obvious it is that Kylie is trying to use her sexuality to sell her products. Unfortunately, fans don't think her method is working. Users in the thread practically begged the star to rebrand and stop trying to build a business by over-sexualizing herself. "That dress is gross and actually surprised that she reposted it," floral_scribfcr wrote of the dress. Fans also pointed out that it doesn't make sense that Kylie is seemingly aiming her ads toward the male gaze when women are the ones who buy her makeup products.
If Kylie's plan was to cause outrage and get fans talking about her lipgloss, then she succeeded. However, if The Kardashians star Kylie was hoping fans would love her look, which seemingly resembles Vecna from Stranger Things season 4, then her plan has failed. Hopefully, the star does not start a fashion line anytime soon because she's already pushed away any potential customers. This experience may have taught her that trying to make your dress appear like it's covered in lipgloss will not draw anyone in, and they'll instead interpret it as something much different. The Kardashians star might want to listen to her fans and think about rebranding Kylie Cosmetics.
