Van Damme, Yeoh & Garber Join Kung Fu Panda 2

Just last week we reported the welcome news that Gary Oldman had joined the cast of the upcoming animated sequel, Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom. But if you thought that was all the awesomeness the sequel was going to bring you are mistaken, as three more voices have been added to the cast.

DreamWorks Animation has announced that Jean-Claude Van Damme (yes, JCVD), Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Victor Garber (Alias) have all joined the cast of Kung Fu Panda 2. The studio also confirms Oldman's casting in case anyone was wondering whether that news was solid.

All of new additions join a returning cast that includes Jack Black (Po), Angelina Jolie (Tigress), Jackie Chan (Monkey), Seth Rogen (Cricket), David Cross (Crane) and Dustin Hoffman (Master Shifu).

As previously reported, Oldman will voice a peacock, but we now learn that his name will be Lord Shen and that he will be the new villain Po and the Kung Fu animals must battle. Van Damme will voice Master Croc, Garber will voice Master Thundering Rhino and Yeoh will play a goat known as The Soothsayer.

Melissa Cobb, producer of both Kung Fu Panda and its sequel, had this to say about the new casting additions:

"In the sequel, Po goes on an amazing personal journey and we are thrilled to have assembled such a talented and well-respected group of actors to bring to life our new characters, who – alongside our returning cast – play such a critical role in Po's quest and his ultimate triumph over the forces of evil."

Boy, I didn't think a Kung Fu Panda sequel could top the first one in terms of star voice talent, but evidently it has. It's odd at first to think of Van Damme lending his voice instead of punching and kicking bad guys in straight-to-DVD glory, but the more I ponder it, the more I think it could be a perfect (perfectly hilarious) piece of voice casting.

Yeoh may be an obvious choice, but I guess you can't blame them for casting her considering her status as an international superstar. And as for Garber, I'll have to wait and see as I've only ever seen him in a handful of things.

What do you think of Van Damme, Yeoh and Garber joining the cast Kung Fu Panda 2 cast? Are they good choices?

Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom is slated to hit theaters on June 3rd, 2011.
