Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Krypton's season 1 finale.

Following Krypton's season 1 finale, a new teaser has been released for the second season of the Superman prequel series. Now that General Zod (Colin Salmon) has taken over Krypton, Superman's legacy has been completely erased from history. The shocking twist is a major shakeup to the status quo that will have to be addressed when the series returns. After all, Syfy has already renewed Krypton for season 2.

All season long, Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe) and his allies have been working to stop Brainiac, "the collector of worlds", from taking the city of Kandor and thereby wiping Superman from existence. After reluctantly joining forces with a time-traveling General Zod, Seg learns that Krypton was fated to be destroyed anyway. Seg has since put everything on the line to stop Brainiac, including his grandson's destiny. In the season finale, Seg finally finds a way to beat Brainiac by sending him into the Phantom Zone. Unfortunately, Seg is now trapped in the Phantom Zone as well, leaving his fate uncertain. Meanwhile, Zod has become the new ruler of Krypton.

A short teaser for Krypton season 2 (above) shows Superman's "S" symbol being replaced by the emblem of the House of Zod. The trailer includes the ominous words, "the symbol you know is no more." Syfy has also released two minutes of the finale's conclusion (below), which shows Zod's speech to his people where he announces his plans for galactic conquest. What's important about this moment is what it means for Superman's legacy. General Zod's actions have erased the Man of Steel from existence. Superman's cape in the Fortress of Solitude was replaced by Zod's cape, which makes it clear to fans that Superman is gone from history.

The finale clearly sets up General Zod as the big bad of season 2. Though Zod originally presented himself as a heroic figure with good intentions, the character has since shown his true colors. In a recent episode, his ambitions of power were hinted at during a conversation with his grandmother, Jayna (Ann Ogbomo).

With Brainiac defeated and Seg in the Phantom Zone, no one is left to stand in Zod's way of global domination. Zod can finally make Krypton the imperialistic society he always wanted it to be. If left unchecked, Zod could lay waste to numerous alien worlds as well, such as Earth. As Superman is portrayed as a symbol of hope, Zod represents fear and oppression. Krypton will be a far different world when Seg finally emerges from the Phantom Zone next season. Hopefully, he can remove Zod from power and restore his grandson's legacy.
