Season 2 of Syfy's Krypton finally delivers for fans who have been waiting years for notorious anti-hero and alien bounty hunter Lobo to make his first live-action appearance. Krypton succeeds in giving fans a comic book-accurate portrayal of the beloved character.

At SDCC 2018, it was announced that Lobo would join Krypton season 2 as a villain. In October, actor Emmett J. Scanlan was confirmed to play Lobo. Later, an official description for the character revealed that Krypton's take on Lobo would be a comic book-accurate interpretation, which further added to fan anticipation for the show's second season. On the day that season 2 premiered, Syfy announced that a Lobo spinoff series was in development, which means that the network has big plans for the Scourge of the Cosmos that extend beyond the Superman prequel series.

At the end of the season 2 premiere, Lobo makes his long-awaited Krypton debut when he captures Seg (Cameron Cuffe) and Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos). Lobo's comic book-inspired look makes him instantly recognizable. In the following episode, Lobo reveals that his plans are to apprehend Brainiac (Blake Ritson), who Seg claims to have killed. Seg and Adam find themselves in even more trouble with Lobo when it's discovered that Brainiac lives on "inside" of Seg. After blasting a hole in Lobo's torso, the two escape, but of course Lobo is far from dead. Just like the comic book version, Lobo has a healing factor similar to Deadpool's.

Early in the episode, Lobo introduces himself to Seg and Adam by listing several titles that he's been called over the years, including "The Ultimate Bastich", "Scourge of the Cosmos", "Machete Man", "The Main Man", "Assassin to Royalty", "The Last Czarnian", and several more. Each and every one of these titles has been used to describe Lobo in the comics, so Lobo mentioning them all lets audiences know right away that Krypton is aiming to keep their version of Lobo as close to the source material as possible.

As the episode goes on, Lobo proves to be a frighteningly murderous bounty hunter who enjoys his job a little too much. Lobo's sadistic sense of humor and his appreciation for over-the-top, gory violence are key elements of the character which are translated perfectly to the small screen.

Though this is the first time Lobo has appeared in live-action, there have been other attempts to bring Lobo to life. There's been talk of a Lobo film dating all the way back to 2009, but it's never quite gotten off the ground. A Lobo movie with Michael Bay at the helm was discussed in 2018, but once again, nothing has come of it as of yet, and at this point it's hard to say if the project will move forward anytime soon. To some, a TV version of The Main Man may seem at first like a consolation prize, but just two episodes of season 2 have already made it clear that this is the Lobo fans have been waiting for.
