Kristin Cavallari and Stephen Colletti are in the process of rewatching Laguna Beach for their new podcast, and the star called the experience therapeutic. On May 2, Variety reported that the reality stars would be hosting a Laguna Beach podcast where they rewatched the first two seasons of the show and let fans in on the behind-the-scenes secrets and drama of filming back in 2004 and 2005. The podcast, Back to the Beach With Kristin and Stephen, will debut this summer and is produced by Dear Media. Kristin and Stephen will invite old cast members, including Jason Wahler, who also appeared on The Hills and The Hills: New Beginnings, as well as fans to call in and submit questions.
The MTV reality series, which also starred Lauren Conrad, premiered in 2004 during the early aughts of reality television. No one on the show truly knew what they were getting themselves into and were basically guinea pigs on a television show that would lead to many spinoffs and reiterations, including The Hills, The City, and Siesta Key. The show premiered a year after the scripted drama The O.C. and followed the real lives of teenagers living in Orange County with a heavy focus on the love triangle between Kristin, Stephen, and Lauren. Most fans of the show still have the whining sound of Kristin calling Stephen's name imprinted in their minds.
As Kristin and Stephen get into rewatching the show and recording their podcast, Kristin has called the experience therapeutic. The star told Page Six that rewatching and discussing the show with her former castmate has been a lot of fun and has actually been beneficial to her mental health. "I haven't watched the show since it aired, and so to sit down now and watch it and then break it down with Stephen has almost been therapeutic in a lot of ways," Kristin admits. The Uncommon James founder also revealed that watching Laguna Beach as a 35-year-old is a much less emotional experience than watching the show at 17.
At the time, Kristin felt producers were specifically manipulating her scenes to make her look like the villain, but watching the show back with Stephen helped her realize she was never alone, and everyone on the show felt like they were being manipulated as well. The mother of three also confessed, "Stephen first came to me about it a while ago, and I was really hesitant at first, but I'm really happy that I agreed to do it." She also teased that they've had a lot of special guests on the show but didn't give away any names. Luckily, Kristin promises she and Stephen do not hold back on the podcast and break everything down for their listeners.
It's good to hear that Kristin and Stephen are enjoying their time rewatching Laguna Beach, and the experience isn't triggering too many bad memories. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the two are getting back together anytime soon, but it'll still be fun to relive their high school romance through the show. Kristin did not reveal if her former rival Lauren will make an appearance on the podcast, but fans would surely welcome a guest appearance from her with open arms. Whatever the two have in store, it's likely to make fans nostalgic for the days of Hilary Duff songs, Abercrombie mini skirts, and all the Southern California lingo.
