Humanitarian, environmentalist, and Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, Kourtney Kardashian has been criticized for drinking from a plastic bottle after urging her sister Kim to avoid them. The eldest of the Kardashian sisters prides herself on an organic lifestyle and green living but just recently got called out for being hypocritical.

Reality TV star Kourtney has been such a staunch defender of natural products and environmental wellness. In 2018,  she appeared before Congress alongside the Environmental Working Group, lobbying for cosmetics reform. This led to Kourtney's self-professed position as a champion of the environment. This year she began her lifestyle brand Poosh which is described as a lifestyle website that features topics such as health and wellness, life and style, interior design, beauty, motherhood, and even environmental causes.

In Sunday's episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians (via People), Kim and Kourtney were part of meetings held to troubleshoot the clean up of one of the most polluted areas in the United States. The Santa Susanna Field Laboratory in northwest Los Angeles holds the distinction and is an environmental problem in need of solving. During the talks, Kourtney took Kim to task for her use of plastic drinking-water bottles. However, later in the episode, Kourtney was spotted using one of the same plastic water bottles. A fan pointed it out via Twitter, see the post below:

That's when a fan pointed out to Kourtney that she was sending mixed signals about her environmental dedication. Kourtney responded to the fan via Twitter. She replied, "I was in Kim’s office and that’s all that was there." She added, "And no I’m not perfect, but I could have brought a reusable bottle for the day, this is true." If Kim were to switch to reusable bottles, and made those available to her guests, it would substantially lower her carbon footprint because single-use water bottles contribute to the millions of pounds per year of plastic waste in the ocean.

Although Kourtney's contrition is noteworthy, fans shouldn't be so concerned with one little lapse. Sure, Kourtney has posited herself as a beacon for all things healthy and ecologically sound. However, she has to hydrate and if the only thing available just that once is a regular bottle of water then she shouldn't be chided for it. Furthermore, it's great that fans love and pay attention to Keeping Up With the Kardashians as much as they do, but is it really necessary to obsessively take the family to task for every single hit or miss they execute? Kourtney was obviously criticizing Kim for being excessive in her use of plastic bottles, as opposed to taking a pious stance about them in general. That said, every little bit counts, so everyone should be doing their part to aid with climate change and lower carbon emissions, even if it starts with compelling other people to simply change their bad habits.
