Park Hae-soo will star as Berlin in the Korean remake of Money HeistHae-soo gained international recognition in the overwhelmingly successful Squid Game, starring as Cho Sang-woo (contestant 218), rival and former friend to the series' lead Seong Gi-hun, aka contestant 456Already a well-established actor in his home country of South Korea, Hae-soo earned himself a Seoul Award for his performance in the popular K-comedy drama Prison Playbook before landing the role in the ultra-popular Netflix survival show.

La casa de papel, or Money Heist as it's more commonly known, is a Spanish heist drama that follows a group of skilled crooks who commit large-scale robberies, orchestrated by a criminal mastermind known as the Professor (played by Álvaro Morte). Each season, the ensemble cast tries to pull off ambitious robberies while dealing with hostages, a pursuing police force, and trouble within the gang's ranks. The popularity of Money Heist is down to a show layout almost as ambitious as the gang's heists. With its roots firmly planted in Spanish soil and a storyline told through an unreliable female narrator, the show makes for an exciting, fresh take on the heist genre. The show's success has earned it a myriad of international awards, helping to solidify Money Heist as one of Netflix's most popular shows.

As revealed by the official Money Heist YouTube channel, the Korean remake will star Hae-soo as one of the show's main characters, Berlin. While sporting a familiar Dali mask, the actor expressed his excitement for the role, saying, "In the past five years, fans from around the world have shown their love for the series. I hope our Korean version also receives your love and support." He also confirmed that the characters will have their own special mask which will debut next year, hinting at a 2022 series release date.

The remake promises an all-star cast of established Korean actors, with Jun Jeong-seo as Tokyo, Lee Won-jong as Moscow, and acclaimed actor Yoo Ji-tae leading the gang as the Professor. Netflix's choice to adapt Money Heist is no doubt spurned on by the popularity of Squid Game and the likes of the Oscar-winning Parasite, giving the streaming service the confidence to branch out from its Western-dominated scheduling to expand further into foreign-language shows and movies. A Korean version of the show would also allow Money Heist to work without the constraints placed on the genre by more traditional Anglo-Western crime dramas, giving the remake the breathing space to become a unique piece of heist fiction akin to the source material.

The Spanish version of Money Heist will come to an end in December but will live on in recently announced spin-off Berlin, which will center on the titular jewel thief. With the second season of Squid Game also in the works and growing interest in shows like Hellbound and Alice in Borderland, production studios will no doubt continue to jump on the growing interest surrounding the foreign-language market. Thanks to the success of Squid Game, Hae-soo's role in Money Heist won't be the last time that the actor or his fellow cast members will find themselves called upon to star in increasingly bigger shows and movies, as the fever-pitch for Squid Game refuses to dissipate.
