Warner Bros. has announced that Kong: Skull Island is coming to San Diego Comic-Con this weekend in the form of an interactive exhibit. Released in March, Kong: Skull Island was a smash hit out of the gate for Warner Bros., and went on to earn more than $566 million in global ticket sales during its theatrical run.

A follow-up film to studio's 2014 blockbuster hit Godzilla (which earned more than $529 million globally), Kong: Skull Island - starring Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman - further helped lay the foundation for Warner Bros.' new MonsterVerse by examining the origins of the monolithic beast and the mysterious island he inhabited.

To help commemorate Kong: Skull Island's release on Blu-ray Tuesday, the studio and Legendary Entertainment announced on Twitter that the Kong: Skull Island Experience would be featured at Comic-Con this weekend. According to the Unofficial SDCC Blog, the exhibit will be called the "Monarch Containment Zone," which will house gigantic bones of Kong's ancestors.

Fans will also be able to enter the Iwi temple to unearth the mysteries of Skull Island, as well as "navigate the beast-infested jungles of the island for a close encounter with the mighty Kong himself." Naturally, the props for the experience are life-sized, so fans will able to take photos in front of the palm of King Kong's very large left hand.

Parks and Cons captured some of the exhibit as it was being assembled (see above), and among the props caught on video was a skull of one of Kong's ancestors, which appeared big enough for two of the crew members to crawl in each of its empty eye sockets. Faux jaw fragments from a prehistoric beast were captured on video as well. The exhibit will be featured near Comic-Con on the lawn of the Omni hotel, says the blog. The experience will be open to convention-goers everyday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday through Sunday.

While such events as panels with big name actors and filmmakers obviously provide more excitement than fans can hope for at Comic-Con, the Kong: Skull Island Experience promises to be a unique diversion from the packed convention halls in southern California. It promises to put people closer than ever to the unique environs of Kong: Skull Island, and with any luck, there will be more information about the MonsterVerse in store for them as they re-enter Comic-Con with Godzilla: King of the Monsters just over a year and a half away.

Kong, of course, will return to the big screen in Godzilla vs. Kong.
