At the most recent PlayStation State of Play, King of Fighters developer SNK revealed another new fighter, Dolores, and announced a new open beta in November. This will mark the third new character announced by SNK during the month of October, as Isla and K' were announced for King of Fighters during the Tokyo Game Show 2021 livestream.
King of Fighters 15 is the still-upcoming fighter game that is scheduled to be released sometime in 2022. The game will be notable for being the first in the King of Fighters series to use the Unreal Engine 4 as its base engine. Already, SNK has announced 39 fighters who will be playable for the game at launch, as well as during the upcoming beta.
During the State of Play, PlayStation and SNK revealed that the open beta for King of Fighters 15 will run from November 19 to November 20. The trailer also revealed that a new character, Delores, will be available to play during the beta. Described as a mysterious medium who can control the earth, Delores joins Isla and general Heidern, which is a bit of a strange group. With her detailed embroidery and unique design, King of Fighters players will be sure to want to check out Delores when the beta goes live in November.
King of Fighters 15 returns the previous installments fighting system and parry system but will feature a wide variety of online modes. The characters will once again be split into distinct fighting teams. 13 teams of three, totaling 39 players, will be available at launch, with six additional fighters to be released later as downloadable content. The story will follow the destruction caused by Verse in the previous game, and how fighters protect the seal of the demon Orochi. Otherwise, little new information regarding the gameplay has been revealed, which is why so many players will be looking forward to the beta.
The release of King of Fighters 15 has been anticipated by fans of the series and the fighting game genre as a whole for quite some time. SNK began teasing new characters for the game back in early 2021, but fans didn't get confirmation of any of the game's features until late February. Fans were excited by the direction of King of Fighters, including the decision to rollback netcode, but gameplay details are still scarce. This upcoming beta will finally give eager King of Fighters players the chance to experience the newest installment in the game.
King of Fighters 15 will release on February 17, 2022, for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
