M. Night Shyamalan's next movie is Knock at the Cabin, the details of which are beginning to arrive as far as its cast, story, and release date are concerned. The apocalyptic horror is written, directed, and produced by the prolific filmmaker, best known for The Sixth Sense and the "Eastrail 177 trilogy" (Unbreakable, Split, and Glass). Knock at the Cabin is the second movie made as part of Shyamalan's two-film contract with Universal Studios, the first of which was the 2021 thriller Old.

Knock at the Cabin is officially an adaptation of the 2018 novel The Cabin at the End of the World by bestselling horror author Paul Tremblay. In July 2022, Tremblay finally confirmed that his book was the source material for Shyamalan's movie after spending months "quelling internet rumors and putting out Twitter fires connecting the book and movie" (via CNBC). This will be the first of Tremblay's works to be adapted.

Audiences aren't sure what to expect from Knock at the Cabin, especially since Shyamalan is famous for his twist endings— some of them more successfully realized than others. But, now that filming has officially wrapped on the production, anticipation is at an all-time high. Here's everything that's known about Knock at the Cabin so far.

Knock At The Cabin Story: What Is Shyamalan's Next Movie About?

Knock at the Cabin Clapper Board

Knock at the Cabin is described as a home invasion horror that takes place during the apocalypse. Tremblay's novel, The Cabin at the End of the World, may provide more plot clues. The book follows Wen, a seven-year-old girl vacationing in a remote cabin with her parents, Eric and Andrew. Four strangers, Leonard, Redmond, Adriane, and Sabrina, arrive at the cabin and force the family into a deadly encounter. Tremblay has already told fans that the film won't be exactly the same as the book, and anyone familiar with Shyamalan's movie's unorthodox storytelling should probably expect a few wild plot twists.

Knock At The Cabin Cast

Dave Bautista stars in Knock at the Cabin as Leonard, and the rest of his crew will be played by Rupert Grint as Redmond, Nikki Amuka-Bird as Adriane, and Abby Quinn as Sabrina. Hamilton's Jonathan Groff and Fleabag's Ben Aldridge will be playing the married couple, Andrew and Eric. No young actor has been announced for the role of Wen, suggesting that Shyamalan might have completely removed this character. Amuka-Bird previously worked with Shyamalan on Old, and this also won't be Grint's first time working with Shyamalan. The filmmaker produces the TV series Servant, in which Grint has a main role. Knock at the Cabin will be the first feature role in eight years for Rupert Grint, who isn't in many movies.

Knock At The Cabin Release Date

M. Night Shyamalan begins production on Knock At The Cabin

Knock at the Cabin is now in post-production, but there's still a while to wait before the film reaches the big screen. It was originally scheduled for a later release, but the date was pushed up by two weeks; perhaps to better fit the schedule of other 2023 horror releases, including a new Stephen King adaptation and a spinoff of A Quiet Place. Knock at the Cabin is now set to be released on February 3, 2023.
