Jamie Lee Curtis offered an update on the status of Knives Out's Thrombey family. The 62-year-old actress of Halloween (1978) fame played Linda, the daughter of wealthy mystery novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) in Rian Johnson's Knives Out. The 2019 film was a notable success at the box office, grossing $311.4 million on a $40 million budget. The whodunnit also garnered rave reviews from critics for its subversive take on murder-mystery tropes and an eventual Oscar nomination for Johnson's original screenplay. Soon after Knives Out became a hit, Johnson began working on a sequel.

Yesterday, it was announced that Netflix closed a $450 million deal to acquire the rights to Knives Out 2 and 3, which will stream exclusively on the platform. Daniel Craig, who portrayed the Southern-fried detective Benoit Blanc who investigated the mysterious death of Harlan Thrombey, will return for the sequels, although it is unclear if any other members of Knives Out's all-star ensemble, which also includes Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Michael Shannon, and Toni Collette, will be returning for future installments. Since Johnson has said Knives Out 2 will see Blanc solving an entirely new mystery, it may be unlikely we see the Thrombeys again.

Until more news about the sequels surface, Jamie Lee Curtis has a detailed update on the status of the dysfunctional Thrombey family who was last seen leaving their mansion which Harlan left solely to his nurse Marta. "To clear up any rumors," Curtis begins on Instagram, "The Thromby family is in family counseling and the therapist suggested they stay away from Benoit Blanc in the future." She goes on to say that none of the Thrombeys "will be joining Mr. Blanc in Greece," which seems to rule out any chances of seeing the Thrombey family again in the sequels. In her post, Curtis alluded to the fact that Knives Out 2 will begin filming in Greece this June. Just as Johnson suggested, Blanc seems to be heading overseas to investigate an entirely new mystery completely independent from the murder of Harlan Thrombey. While it is disappointing that the wonderfully dysfunctional Thrombey family will likely not be seen again on screen, Knives Out was one of the most unique intellectual properties seen in recent years, and fans should have faith that Rian Johnson can cook up an equally intriguing mystery and characters for the sequel.

With production for Knives Out 2 set to begin in a few months, plenty of casting news is sure to drop soon. It will be just as interesting to see if Johnson can put together a cast that rivals the star power of the original Knives Out.
