Knives Out's own Benoit Blanc himself, Daniel Craig, has finally offered audiences an update on the development progress of the sequel, Knives Out 2. Initially released in November 2019, the original film was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews, with most complimenting its unexpected and complex level of storytelling, the performances of its ensemble cast of stars, and the direction of Rian Johnson. After such a large amount of success, the sequel was very quickly greenlit by Lionsgate in February 2020.

In the sequel, Craig will reprise his role as the aforementioned detective who has moved on from Harlan Thrombey's murder and discovered a brand-new case to take on. Joining Craig in this star-studded sequel is an equally as interesting ensemble cast, including Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke. Without an official release date, the film is estimated to be released in the latter portion of 2022.

Throughout the remainder of the interview, the two actors each spoke about their respective careers and their own personal experiences working within the film industry. Read what Craig had to say when asked about the status of the sequel:

We did the second one in the summer. We shot in Greece and then we filmed studio work in Serbia. It's finished, it's in the can, Rian's editing now and it'll be out Autumn of this year. It's done, amazing really.

Many past reports of Knives Out 2's development have been almost completely shrouded in mystery, particularly any details of the film's overall plot. The only in-depth reports that audiences have received in the past have been the many starring cast members that have joined Craig for his latest outing as the Sherlock Holmes-like detective. Furthermore, the release date was previously reported to be very loosely placed, only stating that it would be some time in 2022, once again leaving many fans in the dark about this highly anticipated sequel.

With this exciting new update about the film, audiences are able to rejoice as the confirmation of the film almost being completed, simply being in the editing stages, sets up high hopes for an even earlier release date than likely expected. Furthermore, the confirmation of an autumn release date allows fans of the original to become especially excited at the notion of the sequel coming so soon, rather than a year later. Audiences can catch Knives Out 2 once it releases in the autumn of 2022.
