Fans have made Knives Out 2 trend on Twitter after declaring it their most anticipated franchise film. Following the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, director Rian Johnson went in a different direction than mega franchises for his next film. He created an original murder mystery movie starring Daniel Craig as Detective Benoit Blanc and assembled an all-star cast of suspects. Knives Out was a massive hit at the end of 2019, earning rave reviews and more than $300 million worldwide.
The result of Knives Out's success immediately began conversations about whether or not a sequel would be made. Thankfully, it was confirmed in early 2020 that Lionsgate and Johnson were moving forward with another whodunnit starring Craig. Knives Out 2 will follow another mystery Benoit Blanc attempts to solve, but this means Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, and other stars from the first film likely won't appear. Even without too many details on where Knives Out 2 will take the sequel, fans are already incredibly excited.
Knives Out 2 is currently trending on Twitter due to the anticipation for the sequel. DiscussingFilm assembled a group of movies that are currently in development and asked Twitter users to keep three projects alive and cancel the rest. Despite some major franchise installments being included in the grouping, it is Knives Out 2 that is dominating the conversation so far with more than 4K tweets proclaiming the desire for the sequel to happen.
The performance of Knives Out 2 in this game is another testament to how beloved the original film has already become. The sequel is currently being discussed more than upcoming MCU installments Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Spider-Man 3, and the reboot of Blade, as well as DC's Black Adam and Aquaman 2. Other movies in contention for this game included Atomic Blonde 2, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Godzilla vs Kong, Halloween Kills, Scream 5, and Chicken Run 2.
With so much excitement for what Rian Johnson has in store for Knives Out 2, fans are understandably anxious to find out more. He began working on the Knives Out 2 script at the beginning of 2020, so it is possible that Johnson has made great progress during the quarantine. Unfortunately, Lionsgate has not yet announced when Knives Out 2 will be released in theaters - which could be to its benefit considering how many movies have and continue to be delayed. Considering how quickly the original Knives Out came together, Knives Out 2 could have even more momentum behind it now. Once movie productions return in larger quantities, then hopefully it won't be too long before Knives Out 2 starts filming.
