The latest Knives Out 2 set photos reveal Ethan Hawke was secretly cast in the movie. One of the most notable aspects of the original Knives Out was the star-studded ensemble cast that memorably brought director Rian Johnson's Oscar-nominated screenplay to life. The followup is shaping up to be no different, as returning leading man Daniel Craig is joined by a collection of A-list talent including Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Leslie Odom, Jr., Kathryn Hahn, and many more. Based on Knives Out's success, it was clear many other big names were interested in joining the franchise.

Knives Out 2 began filming in Greece, with the first batch of set photos showing off Craig's new Mediterranean costume. While the film doesn't have an official release date yet, audiences are excited to see Knives Out 2 come together, as there's much interest in seeing how the new cast interacts with each other. As viewers get their first glimpses of the highly-anticipated sequel, another major actor has joined the project in secret.

Daily Mail had a collection of new Knives Out 2 set photos, which show Hawke is in the movie. He was seen wielding a pistol prop, seemingly shooting scenes with Bautista, Hahn, Craig, Odom and Kate Hudson. Daily Mail also has another set photo they claim is of Jada Pinkett Smith, but it's unclear if it's Smith or Janelle Monae. Check out the photos below:

Since this is the first confirmation of Hawke's involvement, it's difficult to say how his character fits into the story. Regardless, he should prove to be a valuable addition to the Knives Out 2 cast. Hawke has amassed a varied filmography over the course of his career, and has been nominated for four Oscars. Given his talent and Knives Out's mixture of murder-mystery and comedic elements, it'll be fun to see Hawke deliver an entertaining and captivating performance. That he's holding a pistol would make one believe he's a villainous figure, but Daily Mail notes it could be a water gun. Hawke's seen shooting it into Bautista's mouth, perhaps helping his co-star keep cool between takes.

As Knives Out 2 continues principal photography, it will be interesting to see if there are any more surprise additions to the cast. Hawke and Smith were never mentioned in the casting reports leading up to filming starting, so it's possible Johnson brought in some other actors without people knowing. At the same time, the Knives Out 2 ensemble is already quite large, meaning there may not be room for many more without running the risk of spreading things too thin. As great as it is to see the big names come together, it would be disappointing if some of the roles were too thin. Fortunately, Johnson has at least one more Knives Out sequel to make, so he'll have opportunities to bring more A-listers in.
