Director Rian Johnson has confirmed that Knives Out 2 has wrapped filming. Daniel Craig will be back for his second adventure as detective Benoit Blanc, but this time he'll be investigating an entirely new cast of characters. While the first film saw him questioning the duplicitous Thrombey family and their alleged involvement in the death of patriarch Harlan Thrombey, Knives Out 2 will dive into another mystery. The Thrombey family has been switched out for an equally star-studded cast as the first film and instead of taking place in snowy New England, the sequel spent most of its shoot in Greece.

Joining Craig are Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Kathryn Hahn, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke. Hawke's surprise casting was revealed from set photos out of Greece and many theorized that he could be playing a villainous character thanks to his sleek outfit. Other than that, though, little is known about the plot of Knives Out 2, which will head straight to Netflix after the streamer bought two sequels from Johnson in a deal worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Now, after beginning production earlier this summer, Johnson has taken to Twitter to reveal that production on Knives Out 2 has wrapped. The director revealed this alongside praise for Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver's new movie Annette, which is now streaming on Amazon after debuting at Cannes. Johnson took time to thank the crew of Knives Out 2 while still revealing very little about the upcoming film. Check out his tweet below:

While the original Knives Out released in the fall of 2019, it seems that Knives Out 2 could be getting a summer 2022 release. The runaway success of the first film certainly indicates blockbuster potential for the franchise and while the New England setting of the first film was perfect for the fall season, the summery setting of Greece would make for a perfect mid-year release. After Netflix's landmark deal earlier this year, the streamer will also want to get the movie out as soon as possible to retain hype for the burgeoning franchise.

With Netflix also set to produce Knives Out 3, it seems that Johnson and Craig will be quite busy with the franchise over the next year or two. Not only will they have to promote Knives Out 2, but the streamer will likely want to fast track a third film. Luckily, the chance to see Benoit Blanc again is an exciting one and if the casts of the first two films are any indication, a third film could bring even more star-power to a franchise absolutely stuffed with it.
