Writer/director Rian Johnson takes to his Twitter to offer a filming update on his highly-anticipated murder mystery sequel Knives Out 2. The first film was a passion project for Johnson, who first came up with the concept shortly after his directorial debut Brick and spent nearly 15 years developing the film. Following the releases of 2012's Looper and 2017's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Johnson finally took the time to put the film together.

Centered on eccentric private detective Benoit Blanc, Knives Out became a smash hit for Johnson and Lionsgate, grossing over $311 million worldwide and garnering one Oscar and three Golden Globe nominations. Originally planning a sequel with the studio, Johnson and his T-Street partner Ram Bergman elected to auction the rights off for two more films, with Netflix winning with a reported bid of $469 million. Knives Out 2 will continue the story of Daniel Craig's Blanc as he becomes embroiled in a new murder mystery with a new cast, including Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Jessica Henwick, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson and Ethan Hawke.

Just over a month after starting production on the film, Johnson has taken to Twitter to reveal that filming on Knives Out 2 is officially halfway through and has wrapped its Greece-set shooting. The filmmaker paired the announcement with a cheeky message of gratitude to the cast and crew for their work on the project. Check out Johnson's post below:

The news that filming is already halfway through is sure to come as an exciting announcement for most, but the confirmation that the latter half of production isn't taking place in Greece is an intriguing development. When news of the Netflix acquisition arrived, the Mediterranean country was the only location reported for Knives Out 2's production. Though this could be chalked up to the remaining portion of filming taking place in studio sound stages for interior scenes, it does create a point of curiosity about what other location the story will be set in.

Whatever the case may be, the confirmation that filming on Knives Out 2 is still moving at a steady pace and is already halfway through after just a month of production is exciting. The first film proved to be a game changer for the murder mystery genre and on top of its unpredictable case, many fell in love with Craig's drawling Blanc and have been eager for his return to the screen. With any luck, Johnson will continue to share more exciting teases in the coming weeks about what can be expected from his highly-anticipated sequel, which is expected to arrive on Netflix in 2022.
