With its trilogy now completed, what are the chances of The Kissing Booth 4 happening? Netflix released The Kissing Booth 3 in August 2021, wrapping up the teen rom-com series three years after it debuted in 2018. Based on the novels written by Beth Reekles of the same name, the franchise follows its protagonist Elle Evans (Joey King) navigating her personal life as she enters early adulthood.

The original The Kissing Booth showed the character entering her first romantic relationship with Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi) — the brother of her best friend Lee Flynn (Joel Courtney). After some complications brought about by a friendship rule that mandates never to get in a romantic relationship with each other's family members, things ultimately ended up okay for the trio. The Kissing Booth 2 had a bigger and more complicated narrative compared to its predecessor. Elle struggled with her long-distance relationship with Noah, while she having problems with Lee, who got himself a girlfriend, Rachel (Meganne Young). Her circumstances became much more complex with the introduction of a potential love interest in Marco Peña (Taylor Zakhar Perez).

Fortunately, they also got through all their personal and collective hurdles, setting them up for The Kissing Booth 3. Deciding to spend the whole summer together before she and Lee start college, Elle is faced with a difficult decision — go to U.C. Berkeley with her best friend as they've always planned or attend Harvard with Noah. In the end, she chose her own path, going to USC instead. With the trilogy over, is there a future for Elle in The Kissing Booth 4?

Will The Kissing Booth 4 Happen?

The Kissing Booth 3 effectively wraps up the Netflix film series with a six-year time jump wherein everyone has already finished college. Given that, there are currently no plans to do The Kissing Booth 4. Reekles series also ended with a third book titled "The Kissing Booth 3: One Last Time" which heavily inspired the threequel. But, if there's enough clamor for the project, it's not outside the realm of possibility that the streaming giant will continue the franchise.

Kissing Booth 4 Cast

Joey King faces a tough choice as Elle in The Kissing Booth 3

Since there is no official word yet about The Kissing Booth 4, there is also no cast for the potential follow-up film. However, in the case that it's greenlit by Netflix, Joey King, Jacob Elordi, and Joel Courtney are expected return to reprise their roles as Elle, Noah, and Lee. Since The Kissing Booth 3 ended with the cast six years older, expect new characters to be introduced as they properly begin their adult lives.

As mentioned, the books that The Kissing Booth franchise is based on also ended with its third installment. So if The Kissing Booth 4 officially pushes forward, Netflix will have to craft an entirely original narrative to continue Elle, Noah, and Lee's arcs. The possible follow-up could follow Elle and Noah reconnecting and ultimately getting back together, while Lee builds a life with Rachel.

Kissing Booth 4 Release Date

With The Kissing Booth 4 not officially ordered by Netflix, it's difficult to exactly predict when it would release. But, in the event that the streaming giant does greenlight a The Kissing Booth 3 follow-up, it might not see the light of day for a while. Aside from a stacked slate for Netflix, writers also have to crack an original story for the project. In any case, that's not going to be a problem since the threequel ended on a time-jump that effectively frees them from the limitations of the actors' real ages with regard to playing younger characters.
