Nintendo has revealed the release date for Kirby's Dream Buffet in the latest trailer for the game and it's arriving a lot sooner than potentially expected. Kirby's Dream Buffet is a Nintendo Switch exclusive with a focus on multiplayer, as Kirby has been shrunk down by the Dream Fork, and must eat desserts to his heart's content.

Kirby's Dream Buffet will feature three different game modes: Race, Minigame, and Battle Royale. Race involves rolling through stages and eating up as many strawberries as possible while using Copy abilities to defeat foes and grab as many snacks as possible. The finish line has several plates of strawberries, so the player in the lead will have the advantage, as the winner of each race is the Kirby who ate the most strawberries. Minigame also involves munching on strawberries, but these matches happen in contained arenas and there are most opportunities for players to battle each other over food. Battle Royale also involves arena battles, but it's possible to knock enemies off the side of the stage and steal their strawberries, favoring a more offensive strategy.

Kirby's Dream Buffet (which has a Smash Bros. cameo) was announced in July with a loose "Summer 2022" release date. It turns out that the game was closer to completion than may have been initially thought. A new trailer on the official Nintendo YouTube channel has announced that Kirby's Dream Buffet will be released for the Nintendo Switch on August 17 for £13.49. The Dollar price for Kirby's Dream Buffet has yet to be revealed, but it's likely going to be around $15, based on the conversion rate for the British Pound.

There is also a secondary function for strawberries outside of filling up Kirby. It's possible to unlock rewards by spending strawberries outside of matches. These involve costumes and colors for the different Kirbys, some of them reminiscent of Fall Guys' character costume customization options, as well as Character Treats, which are pedestals featuring Kirby characters that can be used as a starting point at the beginning of a match. The more strawberries the player eats, the more stages they will unlock across all modes, so players will need to put the work in if they want to unlock everything. Kirby's Dream Buffet isn't a free-to-play game, so all the content is there from the start.

Kirby's Dream Buffet also features different multiplayer options, with a two-player split-screen co-op with two Joy-Cons, a four-player local co-op with multiple Nintendo Switches, and even online multiplayer, which requires a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. The Nintendo Switch doesn't lack for party games, especially now that Fall Guys is on the system, but Kirby's Dream Buffet looks like it's going to be a lot of fun, especially for a budget title. Kirby's Dream Buffet launches next week, so fans won't have to wait long until they're gorging on strawberries with their friends.
