Keeping Up with the Kardashians is taking a hiatus in 2020 but that doesn't mean the fun is over as Kirby Jenner kickstarted on Sunday, May 24th 2020. The KUWTK spin-off show is centred around Kendall Jenner's fictional twin brother, Kirby, and airs on Quibi. Given that Kirby is a member of one of the most famous families in the world, he has a variety of celebrity friends who feature in the show.
The character of Kirby first appeared on Instagram in 2015. Over the last five years, Kirby is responsible for creating some hilarious Instagram posts combining himself and his twin sister, Kendall. You can find him on Instagram at @kirbyjenner. Kirby is very convincingly Photoshopped into a tonne of Kendall's photos. The parody account and character of Kirby is curated so well that anyone unfamiliar with the Kardashian-Jenner family could be duped into thinking that Kendall and Kirby are actual twins, he can even "Photoshop" himself into videos, some of which are featured on the show.
Episode 2 of Kirby Jenner sees him FaceTime Ray Romano. As well as the stand-up comedian, supermodels and famous actresses also feature on Kirby Jenner. As a running joke throughout the show, Kirby is said to be pretty sought after when it comes to his female friends. He has a "stalker" in the form of actress Beverly D'Angelo, who glides by on her Segway in episode 4. Kirby said, "I think she wants to do, like, sex." Beverly D'Angelo, 58, is famed for appearing in blockbusters such as American History X and A Streetcar Named Desire. Kendall describes her twin as a "heartbreaker" and says, "he gets a lot of attention". Two more actresses, Camille Kostek and Amanda Cerny also make cameos in the series.
It's most likely that given the Kardashian-Jenners A-List connections, it was pretty straightforward to get actors, models, comedians and other famous faces involved in the show. Kirby is an amateur model so he's around other models all the time. Model Josephine Skriver appears on Kirby Jenner and said: "Kirby is so hot". Kendall added: "A lot of people think they're dating him, but get just thinks they're like, you know, in a bowling league together." Supermodel Heidi Klum thinks she's dating Kirby on the show and said: "He's a hot, sexy little motherf*cker." However, Kirby makes sure everyone knows it's just a "friend date."
Speaking to E! Online on his relationship status, Kirby said, "I'm not dating anyone at the moment. And I'm really just trying to just focus on dating myself," he reveals. "It's weird, all these people think that I'm dating them but like, we're just hanging out. I don't know why people are getting confused with this friendzone thing. Dating to me is like, romance and passion. But like, I'm just hanging out with these people."
Each episode of the show is about six minutes long, and although they're short, there's a lot packed into each one. Kirby is modelling in Milan with Kendall one day and going on rollercoasters with Kris Jenner the next. Besides Kirby's interest from some of the most beautiful women in the world, he also has a variety of famous faces who play his friends in Kirby Jenner. Episode 4 sees Kirby explain that he's starting a podcast called Turtleneck Talk with Queer Eye's Tan France, Tan says: "You should be embarrassed about the fact that you had to sh*t into a turtle neck sweater and use the sleeves to wipe your a**."
Kendall's twin brother details how he week has gone and reels off a load of things he's been up to, he said he joined a new hockey league with actress Angela Kinsey, went to night school with Ted Danson of Cheers and Becker and practized karate with internet star King Bach. Music maestro Mark Ronson even featured on the show, he is said to be producing a soprano saxophone album for Kirby. Additionally, Kirby says that he's been, "learning a bunch of bad words with Jeff Ross as well as working his side hustle at Kylie Cosmetics."
Neither Kylie nor Kris actually feature in Kirby Jenner. However, it looks as though Kendall partook in the filming for the Quibi show. Snippets of Keeping Up with the Kardashians are cut in with new filming of Kirby and Kendall which makes up the whole series. Somehow, Kirby's creative genius has gone as far as melting into pre-existing Keeping Up with the Kardashian episodes. Old conversations about totally different topics, such as Kris being taken out on the lawn, are changed into a storyline for Kirby Jenner where Kris is attacked by a pigeon.
Episode 7 does see freshly recorded scenes such as one with Kirby, Kendall and Indie pop band Foster the People as well as another featuring LA-based hairstylist Chaz Dean. Mark McGrath, lead singer of Sugar Ray, Penn Juliette, and Howie Mandel also feature in Kirby Jenner. The parody series makes no apologies when it comes to its crazy storylines and even pokes fun at all the Kardashian-Jenner family members. Episode 8 sees Kirby host a Great Gatsby birthday party for Kris, Kirby says, "Tonight's the night of mom's party and I'm super excited. Everyone looks amazing, Kendall came dressed as George Washington, Kourtney looks like a dude, Kimberly came dressed as a bird which is actually super daring considering what just happened to mom."
Kirby has never broken character or revealed what his real name is and the series follows the same format as regular Keeping Up with the Kardashians seasons. The introductory trailer is in the same style as the season 11 introduction and Kirby sits in front of the baby pink backdrop we're all very familiar with and speaks to the camera as if he's a real family member. Now, Kendall is supporting her twin in appearing alongside him in Kirby Jenner. Kris and Kendall also produced the series which has been a welcome instalment of Keeping Up with the Kardashians goodness since the regular show is on hold until September 2020.
