2022 marks the 30-year anniversary for the Kirby series, and fans have been eating good. Early next year, fans can look forward to a remake of the Wii title, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, coming to Switch systems and the strangely fun Kirby's Dream Buffet was also recently released. But Kirby And The Forgotten Land has inarguably been one of the best games released this year, period. All of this Kirby content has fans overjoyed and full of love for the pink puff. As such, plenty of memes about his character can be found online. One might not suspect there to be so much to talk about for Kirby's character, but they're wrong. These memes show a Kirby who's as deep as his insatiable appetite.

Naptime

Kirby is a guy who enjoys the simple pleasures in life. One of these pleasures is the act of simply napping. Kirby might be best known for his Inhale technique, but his sleeping is just as iconic. He usually starts every adventure by napping.

Napping borders on a theme for the series, as the main setting is called "Dreamland." Kirby even has a copy ability called "Sleep" that forces him to nap. At the end of the day, though, Kirby always has to wake up. This is usually due to the threat of the game, which Kirby than promptly defeats, as the meme implies.

All-Loving

Kirby might be violent, at times, but he is also very kind. He's quick to forgive enemies, giving them the benefit of the doubt. He might fight one day, but he'll gladly bury the hatchet. This is due to his all-loving nature.

In many games, hearts are a common motif of Kirby. He gives them to others to befriend them, and he uses hearts given to him to power up a friendship wand. He might sometimes fight, but it's easy to forgive him given he's eight inches tall. As the meme says, "he small, he brawl, but he love you all."

Cake

One thing that Kirby can't get enough of is his cake. The plot of the Nintendo DS game, Kirby: Squeak Squad even starts off with Kirby sitting down to eat some shortcake. It is suddenly spirited away by thieves and that sets Kirby off on a cosmic adventure.

This meme showcases what a big impact food has on Kirby's character. He's always been a big eater, even in early games. In the first Kirby's Dreamland, his heroism is motivated by returning the food stolen by the evil King Dedede. It seems that at his heart, Kirby's a foodie without compare.

American Kirby

Sometimes a video game character's personality can change depending upon the era or region in which they appear. Kirby is no different, as he's subject to one of the most famous characterization changes in gaming. "American Kirby" refers to the process of making Kirby angrier in Wester/North American regions.

This trend is most apparent on game covers, as the meme implies. On the Japanese one, Kirby is smiling with his friends, as his is a happy life. On Western covers, he is angry or striking a fighting pose, and he was even depicted as a violent maniac in early ads. It's a trend that has been in effect until recently and likely isn't done affecting the puffball's character.

Ignores The Signs

Players can find these wanted posters in some levels of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. They depict Kirby himself in a very simplistic style. In the game, players unlock extra Waddle Dees by tearing down these posters.

They're easy to miss, but it's even easier to miss their in-universe subtext. Kirby literally sees wanted posters of himself and tears them down with no deliberation or hesitation. It's pretty funny to think about his reaction to them, which is pretty similar to the famous Garfield meme the above image invokes.

Best Feature

Kirby's design includes a lot of cute features. He has two adorable little red shoes that might be his feet, as well as rosy cheeks and adorable tiny flipper arms. His greatest feature, though, as this meme states, is his smile.

Kirby's smile is infectious and lovely, signaling to newcomers that the game is friendly and for beginners. Perhaps this is the reason it's often removed from the international box art. In any case, this particular smile actually comes from the Super Smash Bros series of fighting games. Kirby shares a creator with that series, so this smile is as great as any canon Kirby grin can be.

Leftovers

Kirby's love of food has already been touched on, but it's more than just a love of cuisine. Kirby doesn't just love food, he often hordes it. This is ironic considering his initial adventure was over Dedede doing the exact same thing.

This is best exemplified in the anime when he inhales an entire banquet and the table it was served on without care for the other guests. Kirby's inhale ability rarely means he'll ever have to share food with others, and there are actually mini-games about quickly inhaling food before your opponent. Kirby's tendency to be a selfish puff is shown well by the meme, which is also kinda relatable.

He Goes Squish

There are tons of video game characters with dark and complex backstories. And while there is lore to Kirby games, the character's backstory has never been his appeal. Games frequently do very little explanation of Kirby's life or character besides him being a cute little guy.

In Kirby's Dreamland, he's said to be an outsider to Dreamland, but that's all fans got until recently. While fans were delighted to learn his possible eldritch origins in Kirby: Star Allies, that wasn't something fans had been clamoring for. Instead, it was his simple and funny design that made him appealing, not any lore or past actions. He's just a little guy who can go squish.

Man I Love Fishing

Fishing doesn't seem like one of Kirby's defining hobbies at first glance. However, numerous games actually depict the puffball dropping a line, even going back to the Game Boy original. It makes sense, as fishing is basically the mid-point of getting food and lying on the beach, two of Kirby's favorite things.

The meme uses an image of Kirby fishing in the latest Switch game. Despite Kirby often trying to fish in cutscenes, this is the first time it's controllable in a main game. It's a lot of fun as a small distraction; being a twitch-based reaction game that awards Kirby with bigger fish the quicker he completes button prompts. Given his beaming face when he hauls in the biggest catch, it's clear that this is one of Kirby's favorite pastimes.

Mouthful Mode

Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduced a new mechanic that's sure to be core to Kirby's character going forward. Mouthful Mode allows Kirby to wrap his body around stuff to use its abilities differently than his usual copy ability. Its utility in Forgotten Land gave it a ton of mileage and has caused lots of memes and speculation about its use.

Specifically, this hilarious meme asks about what Kirby would look like if he used it on a dog. It's a variation of a popular format asking what a dog's pants would look like. Adapted to Kirby it looks a little questionable, but so do most of the Mouthful Mode transformations. Kirby's character is constantly evolving, and he has battled canines before, so it's likely Kirby will have to ask this question himself someday in the future.
