The upcoming Kirby and the Forgotten Land now has a free demo on Nintendo Switch, giving players a chance to try out the game ahead of launch. The demo will let Kirby and the Forgotten Land players try Carby, following on from the introduction of Mouthful Mode that was shown off during the February 2022 Nintendo Direct.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land will be the first 3D platformer in the Kirby series. The story involves Kirby traveling to a mysterious city that resembles a post-apocalyptic metropolis. In this land, the Waddle Dees are being captured and imprisoned by beasts. Kirby must free the Waddle Dees and help rebuild their village while exploring the empty cities and forgotten highways. Kirby and the Forgotten Land will let Kirby partially control machines with his new Mouthful Mode. The game also features new powers, including one that gives Kirby a Blunderbuss-style gun.

There is a lot of buzz surrounding the new Kirby game and players can finally experience it for themselves. As reported by Polygon, a demo for Kirby and the Forgotten Land is now on the Nintendo eShop, available from today, March 3. The Kirby and the Forgotten Land demo features three stages from the final game, including a boss battle, giving players the chance to try out the new abilities in the game and see the stunning visuals for themselves. The demo comes alongside a new trailer from Nintendo UK, which can be seen below.

The demo lets Kirby use a variety of Mouthful Modes, including Kirby and the Forgotten Land's infamous Carby mode. The Vending Machine Mouthful Mode makes an appearance and gives Kirby the ability to fire soda cans, but he can no longer hover or jump high. The Cone Mouthful Mode has a powerful diving attack, but Kirby isn't particularly agile while using it. Kirby can't just wield the power of technology all of the time, as the stages provide natural barriers that prevent Kirby from progressing while in Mouthful Mode, forcing him to abandon his power-ups. There are also some Mouthful Modes that can be used while already possessing an ability, such as containers that can be manipulated.

The Kirby and the Forgotten Land demo isn't particularly long, but it does show off the new direction for the series. Kirby fans have waited a long time for the franchise to go the full 3D platformer route and it looks like the new game will deliver. The next Kirby adventure looks like Super Mario Odyssey, which is a welcome shift from many side-scrolling 2D platformers that have appeared in the series.
