Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the Kirby series’ first fully 3D platformer, and Kirby’s classic Copy Abilities return to this latest installment with new Evolved Abilities. Like most Kirby games, players can inhale enemies to absorb and copy their abilities, giving Kirby useful powers that can help him clear stages and rescue Waddle Dees from the Beast Pack. However, these Evolved upgrades come with brand new powers and abilities that make Kirby’s Copy Ability even stronger.

To upgrade Kirby’s Copy Abilities in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, players must first find the blueprints for each Evolved Ability. These blueprints can be taken to the Waddle Dee Weapons Shop in Waddle Dee Town to unlock its new, more powerful form. Most Copy Abilities have two different Evolved forms, though there are a few that only have one.

In addition to Kirby’s Copy Abilities and their new Evolutions, players can inhale massive objects to gain new abilities with Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s new Mouthful Mode. Fortunately, Kirby will also keep whatever Ability he had before inhaling something new with Mouthful Mode, but players can’t use both at the same time. Still, Kirby will keep whatever hat he was wearing, and as soon as players exit Mouthful Mode, they’ll be able to continue using their original power-up.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land Evolved Abilities - Pencil Drill & Twin Drill

Kirby & The Forgotten Land's Drill Evolved Abilities.

The Drill Ability is one of Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s brand new Copy Abilities, allowing Kirby to dig under the ground to dodge enemies before popping up to attack. The Pencil Drill Evolution transforms Kirby’s drill into a sharp pencil, which he can fire as a projectile when he emerges from the ground. The Twin Drill, on the other hand, gives Kirby two drills as well as the ability to attack enemies above him while staying underground.

Kirby Evolved Abilities - Noble Range & Space Ranger

Kirby & The Forgotten Land's Ranger Evolved Abilities.

The Ranger Ability is another of Kirby and the Forgotten Land's new Copy Abilities, and it gives Kirby a star-shooting blunderbuss that can take out enemies from afar. Its Evolved Noble Ranger form lets Kirby dual-wield two guns that fire cannonballs instead, which makes them slightly slower but increases Kirby’s attack power. The Space Ranger Evolution upgrades Kirby’s gun into a laser blaster that can rapidly fire laser beams at foes.

Kirby Evolved Abilities - Gigant Sword & Meta Knight Sword

Kirby & The Forgotten Land's Sword Evolved Abilities.

Sword Kirby is one of Kirby’s most iconic Copy Ability forms, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land players can use this power-up to perform a variety of different sword attacks like the overhead slash or spin attack. The Gigant Sword Evolution gives Kirby a much larger sword, and players can charge their attack to perform a powerful swing attack that slams the ground in front of them.

The Meta Knight Sword upgrade gives Kirby a Meta Knight skin and allows him to perform a wide range of rapid attacks. This special sword also fires a beam when Kirby is at full health, much like The Legend of Zelda's Master Sword, which was part of the original inspiration for Sword Kirby.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land Evolved Abilities - Chain Bomb & Homing Bomb

Kirby & The Forgotten Land's Bomb Evolved Abilities.

Kirby’s Bomb Ability lets him throw or bowl bombs at enemies in Kirby & The Forgotten Land, and players can charge their attack to aim their bombs with the joystick. The Chain Bomb Evolution launches upgraded bombs that can chain together when they’re close to each other, unleashing a more powerful attack that grows stronger when more bombs are chained together. The Homing Bomb, however, launches a bomb with wheels that will lock on and chase enemies before exploding.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land Evolved Abilities - Toy Hammer & Wild Hammer

Kirby & The Forgotten Land's Hammer Evolved Abilities

The Hammer Copy Ability lets Kirby smash enemies and flatten stakes that block his path in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It’s Evolved Toy Hammer upgrade gives Kirby a squeaky hammer instead, which can be swung faster and deals more damage than the regular Hammer. The Wild Hammer upgrades Kirby’s hammer to a huge stone hammer that’s slower than the others, but it unleashes much more powerful attacks.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land Evolved Abilities - Chakram Cutter & Buzz-Saw Cutter

Kirby & The Forgotten Land's Evolved Cutter Abilities

In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, the Cutter Copy Ability lets players throw two sharp boomerang blades that can be charged after throwing to deal more damage as they return to Kirby. However, the Chakram Cutter Evolution upgrades Kirby’s boomerangs to chakram discs that spin in a curve as they return.

Kirby can also throw more projectiles with this upgrade, allowing him to attack much faster than the basic Copy Ability. Its other Evolved Ability, the Buzz-Saw Cutter, launches a power saw blade from Kirby’s hat that can bounce off walls and hit enemies in its path.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land Evolved Abilities - Volcano Fire & Dragon Fire

Kirby & The Forgotten Land's Evolved Fire Abilities.

Fire Kirby can breathe fire to burn enemies and obstacles in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and it also has a dash attack that lets Kirby turn into a fireball to scorch any foes in his way. The Evolved Volcano Fire ability turns Kirby’s flames into a stream of large, molten rocks, which he can fire at targets in a projectile attack. However, the Dragon Fire upgrade keeps most of the functionality of Fire Kirby, but transforms Kirby’s fire into dragonfire that deals more damage and lasts longer than the basic Copy Ability. Additionally, Kirby will transform into a dragon instead of a fireball, allowing him to burn enemies as he flies through the air.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land Evolved Abilities - Time Crash

The Evolved Time Crash Ability in Kirby & The Forgotten Land

Kirby and the Forgotten Land players can use the Crash Ability to wipe out enemies with a powerful explosion. Time Crash is the only Evolution of this ability, but both are incredibly powerful despite having a limited amount of uses. The Time Crash Ability allows Kirby to stop time with his explosions, and the bigger the explosion, the longer time will stand still.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land Evolved Abilities - Frosty Ice & Blizzard Ice

Kirby & The Forgotten Land's Evolved Ice Abilities

With the Ice Copy Ability, Kirby can breathe ice and kick frozen blocks at enemies in Kirby & The Forgotten Land. Kirby can also freeze an icy shield that protects him from incoming attacks. The Frosty Ice upgrade is relatively similar to its basic form, but Kirby can use it to create snowmen that he can launch at foes.

Blizzard Ice, on the other hand, lets Kirby attack and freeze enemies with frigid icicles. Additionally, all three versions of this Copy Ability allow Kirby to skate across mud and magma, which players can use to reach new areas of a stage.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land Evolved Abilities - Fleur Tornado & Storm Tornado

Tornado Kirby spins into a twister that pulls enemies and objects toward him in Kirby & The Forgotten World. The Storm Tornado creates a massive vortex that zaps enemies with lightning as it passes over or near them.

Kirby & The Forgotten Land Evolved Abilities - Deep Sleep

The Deep Sleep Evolved Ability from Kirby & The Forgotten Land

Sleep allows Kirby to take a quick nap in Kirby & The Forgotten Land, which will heal some of his health but leaves him vulnerable for a short time. Deep Sleep is the only upgrade for this Copy Ability, providing Kirby with a big, comfy bed to sleep in that recovers all of his health by the time he wakes up. With all the stages Kirby will explore in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, a well-earned nap will keep him refreshed and ready for even more adventure.
