As it turns out, Kirby and The Forgotten Land lets players take the form of one of Elden Ring's most unusual and difficult opponents, seen in a video that showcases a similarity between the two games. Kirby’s latest adventure takes his trademark ability to copy the powers of anything he inhales to new levels with Mouthful Mode, which allows the cute pink creature to stretch himself into the shape of larger objects. The most famous and noteworthy of these new modes is Kirby and the Forgotten Land's Carby, a form that sees Kirby draped over a rusty old automobile like a cute pink dust cover. There are other Mouthful Mode forms in the game, such as a vending machine and traffic cone, and Nintendo recently promoted the new game by releasing special Mouthful Mode-themed Switch OLED boxes in Japan.

Meanwhile, Kirby and The Forgotten Land shares a few traits with Elden Ring, another open-world title that was released earlier this year, and pits players against a wide variety of different monsters. However, the similarities seemingly end there: while Kirby is colorful, lighthearted, and rather easy in terms of difficulty, Elden Ring is dark, gory, and incredibly challenging in the tradition of other FromSoftware releases like Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Still, it looks like fans of both are finding a few more common elements among these tonally different open-world titles.

Reddit user Vibrantgiant recently posted a gameplay video of Kirby and The Forgotten Land to r/gaming, one that they humorously describe as taking “a peaceful break from Elden Ring.” The clip shows Kirby using his new Mouthful Mode ability to transform into a large pipe and roll down a hill to crush enemies - something that looks remarkably similar to how one particular carriage-riding knight bowls through players in Elden Ring. Footage of this is intercut with the scene of Kirby rolling downhill, and Vibrantgiant’s video ends with Elden Ring’s red “You Died” text after Kirby falls in battle.

Both Kirby and The Forgotten Land and Elden Ring have earned rave reviews, with the latter quickly becoming one of the best-selling video games of 2022 so far, and spawning a massive amount of memes, mods, and gameplay clips in less than a month. Meanwhile, Kirby and The Forgotten Land has been praised for its new take on the classic Kirby gameplay formula with its leap to 3D, though some critics note that it might be a little too easy for seasoned gamers who have just spent the past few weeks struggling through Elden Ring.

On the other hand, Kirby and The Forgotten Land’s easy gameplay can also be seen as a relaxing escape from the stress of Elden Ring’s unrelenting brutality, though it looks like there is still some overlap between the two open-world fantasy games. Considering how difficult the enemies of Elden Ring are, it might actually be a smart idea for Kirby to emulate them as he journeys through his latest adventure across the titular Forgotten Land - especially when it comes to crushing foes that are foolish enough to be standing downhill.
