Kirby's new Carby form from Kirby and the Forgotten Land has taken the Internet by storm, but he has been turning into a car since the days of the Nintendo Wii. Kirby's new Mouthful Mode uses a car to let Kirby race around levels and break through walls, being one of many new forms he will use to explore the game world in Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

The Mouthful Mode is different from Kirby's regular transformations that have been used in earlier games. In most Kirby games, Kirby can inhale his enemies and copy their powers, which is something that also appears in the Super Smash Bros. series. The Mouthful Mode is different, in that it allows him to take on the properties of machines and tools. In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Kirby can inhale a traffic cone and use it to perform diving attacks, inflate himself with water and become a living water hose, and swallow a lightbulb to create flashes of light.

Carby has become a popular Internet meme, as fans have fallen in love with Kirby turning into a Venom symbiote for a car. Despite all the current hubbub, this isn't actually the first time Kirby has been able to use the power of an automobile. As it turns out, it was an important part of his move set in an earlier Kirby game on the Nintendo Wii.

Carby Appeared In Kirby's Epic Yarn

Kirby Epic Yarn Car Transformation

Kirby's Epic Yarn was released for the Nintendo Wii in 2010 and received an updated port on the Nintendo 3DS in 2019. The entire aesthetic of the game involves characters being made from string and all of the stages being made from cloth. In Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby lost the ability to inhale his enemies and copy their powers. Instead, Kirby (and Prince Fluff in the co-op mode) has the ability to transform into various different vehicles and items. Whenever Kirby or Prince Fluff run, they transform into a car. This form might not be able to match Carby's power in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, but Kirby could use it a lot more often, as all of the Mouthful Modes are restricted to the player having access to the right item.

The Internet is still coming down from its hype over Elden Ring, which is a brutally difficult game in a dark fantasy setting. Kirby and the Forgotten Land will be released for Nintendo Switch on March 25 and it could be the perfect come-down game to follow a FromSoftware title. The Kirby games have generally been easy and they're always fun to play, so exploring the peaceful post-apocalyptic world of Kirby and the Forgotten Land could be a nice break from the Lands Between. Fans can ever drive around as Carby right now, as the Kirby and the Forgotten Land demo is live on Nintendo Switch.
