Kirby's new car form from Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which the fan base has affectionately dubbed Carby, has descended upon racing simulator Assetto Corsa by way of a cheeky mod. Carby was introduced in the recent Kirby game and has since become a viral meme spreading across the internet like wildfire.
Since its release, Kirby and the Forgotten Land has garnered quite a bit of praise from both hardcore and casual gamers. Aside from being a highly polished Nintendo game and the first fully 3D Kirby adventure, the game saw the debut of Mouthful Mode, an expansion of Kirby's iconic inhaling and absorbing mechanic. Through Mouthful Mode, Kirby can wrap himself around large, inanimate objects like vending machines and traffic cones, leveraging some of their utilities for new combat and traversal opportunities. However, it seems like most fans were enthralled by how automobiles functioned through Mouthful Mode, as the internet went ablaze with countless Kirby-centric Carby mods and memes.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land may have already been released, but the Carby mods do not appear to have ceased. The latest Carby mod was shared by the No Context Kirby Twitter account (via GamesRadar) and shows a fleet of Carbys flying down a realistic racetrack featured in Assetto Corsa Competizione. The absurdity of the clip is heightened by the background music, which seems to be some sort of repetitive chant about Kirby himself. The mod itself was created by garyjpaterson and is available to download from Race Department.
Aside from being hilarious, the mod is actually quite impressive. The Carbys in Assetto Corsa are very similar in appearance to their Kirby and the Forgotten Land counterparts, but somehow still manage to move in a believable way as they turn corners and roll over various curbs and other obstacles. This combination is sure to entertain both the massive Kirby and the Forgotten Land fanbase and the more dedicated Assetto Corsa community.
It's possible that this mod could even inspire other tech-savvy gamers to create mods based upon Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Mouthful Mode. Carby, while undeniably iconic and hilarious, is also somewhat obvious as a subject for memes, so it will be interesting to see if other potential mods use one of Mouthful Mode's other forms for comedic effect. Either way, anyone looking to get back into Assetto Corsa might want to give this Kirby and the Forgotten Land mod a shot.
