The Kingsman prequel movie Kingsman: The Great Game will reportedly star Ralph Fiennes and Harris Dickinson. Matthew Vaughn launched the Kingsman franchise on the big screen in 2014. Between his direction and Taron Egerton's charm as Eggsy, the movie was a big hit with critics and audiences alike, and it showed at the box office. The first film and its sequel each did around $400 million worldwide, enough for Fox to greenlight plans for future stories. Kingsman 3 was just given a 2019 release date - but that's only the beginning of their plans.
Vaughn has ambitious plans for the Kingsman brand. He previously confirmed plans for the threequel, a prequel, a spinoff, and a TV series. It has been Kingsman 3 of late that is receiving most of the attention, but that film will be responsible for helping set up some of the future. Previous reports noted the search for new cast members who will be introduced through flashbacks in Kingsman 3 and will then star in The Great Game.
According to Daily Mail reporter Baz Bamigboye, Fox and Vaughn have selected these new stars. Ralph Fiennes and Harris Dickinson will reportedly join the cast of Kingsman 3 before leading The Great Game. Fiennes was previously said to be near or at the top of Fox's list for the mentor role. These castings have yet to be confirmed by Fox, and should be taken with a small grain of salt for the time being. But, if this is indeed true, then hopefully it will be confirmed soon.
There's no previously reported character details for Fiennes' character, but he will effectively be the new Harry Hart (Colin Firth) for the prequel franchise. It is easy to see Fiennes sliding into a similar type of role, although there will undoubtedly be some differences between the two mentor figures. He is no stranger to franchises either after playing Gareth Mallory/M in the last two Daniel Craig Bond movies and even went evil as Voldemort in the Harry Potter franchise. The latter skill shouldn't be necessary here, unless this duo doesn't get along as well as Harry and Eggsy.
Dickinson is just now breaking out after starring in The Darkest Minds (also a Fox production) earlier this year. He will also star in Maleficent 2 for Disney in 2020, so his name could be much bigger by the time The Great Game hits theaters. Dickinson's role is less of a mystery than Fiennes', as previous reports said the new male lead is named Conrad. Those previous breakdowns described Conrad as a "young, cocky and charming son of a British Duke." Vaughn originally intended for Kingsman 3 and The Great Game to film back-to-back, but it isn't clear if that is still the plan or who will direct it. While those details are solidified, at least it looks like the prequel has its stars.
