20th Century Studios unveils a new red-band trailer for The King's Man promising a bloody origin for the titular spy organization. The upcoming film marks the third installment in the Kingsman film franchise, itself based on Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons' comic book series of the same name. The first film arrived in theaters in 2014 to strong reviews from critics and was a large box office success, raking in over $414 million at the worldwide box office against its $81 million budget, while its 2017 sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle saw a more mixed reception but still good financial returns with over $410 million grossed against its $104 million budget.

The King's Man will be a prequel to the first two films and set around the time of World War I, exploring the origins of the titular secret spy organization. The film will star Ralph Fiennes as Orlando Oxford, the Duke of Oxford, as he and his protégé must team up with like-minded soldiers to prevent a plot concocted by history's worst tyrants and criminal masterminds to start a war to wipe out millions. Alongside Fiennes, the cast for the film includes Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, Harris Dickinson, Daniel Brühl, Djimon Hounsou, Stanley Tucci, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Charles Dance.

Though the sequel may have bit a bit overstuffed for its own good, the Kingsman franchise has remained as popular as ever with audiences and the anticipation for a new installment has been high. While some may be more eager to see the next chapter in the lives of Taron Egerton and Colin Firth's Eggsy and Harry, the footage shown thus far for The King's Man has certainly pointed towards another promising outing for the series. It's been known for some time that the latest installment in the franchise would retain the R-rated approach seen in the first two films, but to see the level co-writer/director Matthew Vaughn is reaching for in the film is sure to build that excitement even higher.

From some brutal beheadings to plenty of foul mouthed agents, the new trailer for The King's Man looks to be capitalizing on what made the first two films a hit and delivering another fun ride in the process. Additionally, with Vaughn confirming that the prequel will set up the third film, Kingsman: The Blue Blood, those eager for Egerton and Firth's return will not want to miss the film. The King's Man is currently set to hit theaters on December 22.
