The King's Man 2 is on the way, and director Matthew Vaughn has teased that the next Kingsman prequel movie will take place during the rise of Hitler and Nazi Germany. Based upon Mark Millar's graphic novel The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Secret Service first arrived in 2015, with the spy action comedy becoming a major hit. The movie's success would lead to its 2017 sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, while 2021's The King's Man serves as a prequel for the franchise.

Set during World War I, The King's Man follows Orlando Oxford (Ralph Fiennes), who uncovers a plot against England during the onset of the war. Allied with Shofa (Djimon Hounsou) and Polly (Gemma Arterton), they set off to put a stop to it. Their mission puts them in conflict with the sinister Rasputin (Rhys Ifans), and sets up the Kingsman organization that audiences know and love. The King’s Man 2 was teased in the mid-credits scene of the first movie, although updates on it were quiet for several years. That was until 2023, when Matthew Vaughn confirmed that The King’s Man sequel — titled The King’s Man 2: The Traitor King — is officially in development.

The most recent news on The King’s Man 2 came from director Matthew Vaughn in October 2023. Speaking at New York Comic-Con with Collider, the director of 2021’s The King’s Man teased that the sequel had entered active development and that he already had a few details to share on what the story will follow.

The sequel to The King’s Man was already set up by the end credits of the first movie, which featured the introduction of German actor David Kross (The Keeper, Rising High) as Adolf Hitler. Matthew Vaughn confirmed that The King’s Man 2 would still be following this story tease. “The next one it’s it is about the rise of Hitler, and how Hitler did come to power and basically was supported by the English aristocracy," Vaughn explained, "So I was like, 'well that's interesting' and how the world was worrying so much about Communism, that Fascism rose up.”

The director of The King’s Man and The King’s Man 2 also had thoughts on why the story could be important in the modern era, and what the working title of the movie is — “And I look at the world at the moment, everyone getting distracted and worrying about this [and that] and if you worry too much about [this] bad things can happen here. So it is a story that I think needs to be recalled. We're calling it The Traitor King."

The King’s Man 2 Is Confirmed

The King's Man

The King’s Man 2 is confirmed, and will be titled The Traitor King, according to director Matthew Vaughn. It was expected that The King’s Man would get a sequel given the mid-credits tease of the 2021 movie. However, it wasn’t until October 2023 that Matthew Vaughn revealed The King’s Man 2: The Traitor King had entered active development.

The King’s Man 2 Cast

The cast of The King’s Man 2 has yet to be announced, though it’s expected that multiple names and faces from the first film will be returning to make an appearance in the sequel. Academy Award Nominated and both Emmy and Golden Globe winner R Ralph Fiennes (The Menu, Schindler’s List) is all but guaranteed to return as aristocrat and Kingsman founder Orlando Oxford. He’ll also likely be joined by franchise antagonist Morton, played by Matthew Goode (Watchmen, Downton Abbey).

The cast of The King’s Man 2 will likely be just as star-studded as both the first movie and the Kingsman films, which The King’s Man is a prequel to. Given that the first film in the prequel franchise ended with Ralph Fiennes's Orlando Oxford founding the Kingsman secret society, the returning cast of The King’s Man 2 will likely include:

  • Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace, St. Trinians) as Polly, AKA Galahad
  • Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy, Gladiator) as Shola, AKA Merlin
  • Tom Hollander (The White Lotus, Pride & Prejudice) as King George V, AKA Percival
  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age of Ultron) as Archie Reid, AKA Lancelot

It’s also possible that Alexandra Maria Lara and Harris Dickinson could reprise their roles as Emily and Conrad Oxford for flashback sequences. The mid-credits scene also teased German actor David Kross as Adolf Hitler, and it’s assumed he’ll return for the cast of The King’s Man 2: The Traitor King since director Matthew Vaughn has revealed the story will focus on the rise of fascism and Nazi Germany.

The King’s Man 2 Story Details

There is already a considerable amount known when it comes to the premise of The King’s Man 2, both because of what the first film set up and comments made since by director Matthew Vaughn. The King's Man concludes with Oxford and his allies meeting in the Kingsman tailoring business, where they discuss the need for an independent agency to combat potential threats to the U.K.

This is where the Kingsman agency is officially formed, with each member taking on a code name derived from the knights of the round table. This sets up the Kingsman organization, as it was seen in the first two Kingsman films. From there, The King's Man 2 could easily focus on the first missions as the Kingsman agency, and it seems that their first foe is already known.

Matthew Vaughn has confirmed that The King’s Man 2: The Traitor King will follow the Kingsman agency during Hitler’s rise to power. The title The Traitor King already gives some hints at where the plot could go, especially with Tom Hollander’s King George V a founding member of Kingsman, taking up the position of Percival. What’s yet to be revealed is exactly how the plot of The King’s Man sequel will work Orlando, Polly, and the fictional world of Kingsman into the events of WW2. The only guarantee is that Matthew Goode’s nefarious villain Shepherd, AKA Morton, will have a hand in it when The King’s Man 2 release date arrives.
