Warning! Spoilers ahead for Devil's Reign #2

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Devil's Reign, Wilson Fisk's Kingpin just gained a brand new superpower that could make him nearly unstoppable as he tightens his grip around his city. Serving as New York's corrupt mayor, Fisk has finally decided to declare war on the Avengers and any other heroes operating within the city limits, signing the Powers Act which outlaws all superhero and vigilante activities. Not only that, but it's been revealed that Kingpin has even bigger plans beyond New York, and his new superpower could very well get him everything he wants.

In the first issue of Devil's Reign, Kingpin realized that he had forgotten Daredevil's secret identity against his will, seeing as how Zebediah Killgrave's children made the world forget that Matt Murdock was Daredevil. When Matt Murdock refused to restore Fisk's memory, it was the final straw. Having grown tired of the lack of control he feels in the face of superheroes, Kingpin signed the new legislation while also deputizing a whole new team of Thunderbolts to replace the Avengers (with many being villains such as Doc Ock, Rhino, Taskmaster, and more). However, Kingpin is taking things even further as he's also looking to become the next president of the United States.

In Devil's Reign #2 from Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto, it's revealed that Kingpin has taken the power of Killgrave's Purple Man as his own. Thanks to the engineering genius of Doctor Octopus, Kingpin now wields Killgrave's abilities of persuasion, keeping one of the Purple Man's fingers encased within his diamond-tipped cane which is connected to Killgrave's new prison beneath city hall. Now, Kingpin can shift public opinion in his favor, likening it to an extreme political ad campaign that will ensure his victory in the next mayoral election ahead of his bid for the presidency.

While Kingpin can't outright compel others as the Purple Man can, his new means to coerce their favor is likely enough. After all, he already became New York's mayor on his own power and influence. His new superpower is more of an insurance policy to make sure he gets what he wants, seeing as how he's already defined Devil's Reign as his "endgame." Kingpin isn't taking any chances and he's pulling out all the stops to make sure he wins, regardless of what the Avengers might try to take him down.

Wilson Fisk's Kingpin has always been one of the Marvel Universe's most formidable villains using his cunningness, influence, and vast power he's accrued to make up for a lack of superpowers. However, now that Kingpin does have a superpower (albeit an artificial one), there's no telling what Fisk will be able to achieve as Devil's Reign continues. Clearly, the Avengers are in for a major battle in the issues to come.
