Kingdom Hearts 3 returns the Gummi Ship, an intergalactic spaceship Sora, Donald, and Goofy use to travel between the various Disney Worlds. Here's a guide for beginners on how to best use them. The Gummi ship has been a method of travel for our heroes since 2002. This strangely polygonal spacecraft provides a minigame in their respective Kingdom Hearts titles that bridges the gaps between the worlds. The Gummi Ship has been absent from the Kingdom Hearts series since Kingdom Hearts 2 back on the Playstation 2. In these minigames, Sora can collect materials to improve his ship to make them stronger, faster, or have more defense. In Kingdom Hearts 3, the Gummi Ship formula has been severally changed from its previous iterations and this guide will help beginner players understand everything happening in the cosmos.

In previous entries of the series, the Gummi Ship would stay on a tracked course, typically heading in one direction. Players were locked into a linear minigame up until they hit their desired location. In Kingdom Hearts 3, players now have the ability to fly in any direction they like, occupying a massive 3D space. Players also have much more control over the Gummi Ship, allowing players to now break, boost, and fly whenever they'd like. Along with this new space, comes much more to discover in the cosmos. This guide will help beginners break down everything they can discover in the Gummi Ship minigame.

The Items and Space on the Gummi Ship for Beginners in Kingdom Hearts 3

Kingdom Hearts 3 Gummi Ship Editor

In previous entries, worlds were connected through a single tunnel, now players can choose whatever world they want to discover. For the first time, Disney Worlds are separated by three different quadrants in space. Here are the locations of each world to each quadrant.

  • Starlight Way: Twilight Town, Kingdom of Corona, Olympus, Toy Box.
  • Misty Stream: Arendelle, Monstropolis, San Fransokyo, The Caribbean
  • The Eclipse: The Keyblade Graveyard

Each of these quadrants contains its own special items to discover. As for the more common items, there are four types.

  • Exp Prizes: These will level up the players Gummi Ship and increase the cost limit in the editor.
  • Unique Items: These items are typically synthesis items Sora can use at the Synthesis Shop.
  • HP Prizes: These will restore the HP of the Gummi Ship
  • Items: These contain blocks that players can use to customize their Gummi Ship.

These are the items players will find as they explore each quadrant.

Treasure Spheres on the Gummi Ship for Beginners in Kingdom Hearts 3

Kingdom Hearts 3 Treasure Sphere

Treasure Spheres are new additions to the Gummi Ship minigame. In the world map, players will find golden spheres occupying the spaces between the worlds. Go to the Treasure Spheres. Once players shoot them, a minigame will begin. Shoot the specific gears to rotate them and connect all the circuits. It may take a couple of tries, as the Gummi Ship only makes one trip around the Treasure Sphere before it resets. Shoot at the gears until they lock into place. If done properly, players will be rewarded with the treasures that await inside. Inside would be EXP Prizes, Unique Items, and Items. There's a total of 9 Treasure Spheres, 3 in each quadrant.

Going Faster in the Gummi Ship for Beginners in Kingdom Hearts 3

Kingdom Hearts 3 Gummi Ship Racing

There are a few methods for going faster while riding the Gummi Ship. The most obvious of the bunch would be to press the boost button. Aside from that, there are three different types of areas in space that allow players to get around much faster. The first is the Nebula Lines. Players can't miss them. They are these massive wind tunnels connecting different areas in space. Just enter it and it will automatically take the player to the end of it. If players need to exit, they can roll out at any time. Next are the Boost Rings. The Boost Rings give the player a small boost in speed but will change the direction the Gummi Ship is going to. Lastly is the Boost Spheres. Similar to the Boost Rings, they do give players a small boost, but this time the ship will stay in that constant direction. Later on, players will be able to customize their own Gummi Ship, creating vehicles that are much faster without needing a boost.

Battling Heartless in the Gummi Ship for Beginners in Kingdom Hearts 3

Kingdom Hearts 3 Gummi Ship Racing

As players fly around the space in between, occasionally, players will stumble across a Heartless ship. Players can also see the Heartless insignia along with a star rating. The fewer stars the ship has, the easier they are to defeat. The excellent part of Kingdom Hearts 3's Gummi Ship is that the majority of these fights are completely optional (aside from a few mandatory bosses). Players can avoid these altogether. Although, if players plan on attacking, it will warp them, Final Fantasy style into a minigame. Here, players will defeat a large group of Heartless. Players will also be ranked on how well they do. The rank is based on how many Heartless players kill, the active point multiplier, and avoiding being hit by enemy fire gives players a bonus. If players are struggling, they can either retry or abandon the battle to try again later.

Constellations in the Gummi Ship for Beginners in Kingdom Hearts 3

Constellations are additional collectibles for players to find in the space in between. Searching for bright stars leads to each constellation. This is also an objective for collecting them all. Players can take pictures of the constellations using their Gummi Phone. There's a total of 9 constellations to collect.

  • Constellation 1: Moogle (Located near the Toy Box World at Starlight Way
  • Constellation 2: Bomb (Located near the Olympus World at Starlight Way
  • Constellation 3: Cactuar (Located near the Kingdom of Corona World at Starlight Way
  • Constellation 4: Imp (Located near Waypoint MST-01 at Misty Stream)
  • Constellation 5: Tonberry (Located near Waypoint MST-01. When the player spawns turn around completely)
  • Constellation 6: Endymion (Located near the Caribbean World at Misty Stream)
  • Constellation 7: Ultros (Located above the entrance to the Keyblade Graveyard in Eclipse)
  • Constellation 8: Bismarck (Located left near Waypoint ECL-03 at Eclipse)
  • Constellation 9: Omega (Located right near Waypoint ECL-03 at Eclipse)

After collecting all of the constellations, the "Stargazer" achievement will be unlocked.

Kingdom Hearts 3 redefined the Gummi Ship format, allowing plenty of exploration and things to find in the space in between. The Gummi Ship was always just a method of getting into the main gameplay within the Disney Worlds. For the first time ever, the Gummi Ship is able to stand on its own with its own secrets to uncover. With hours of content and a challenging secret boss within, the Gummi Ship in this game is a much-welcomed improvement to the series.
