Here’s a guide to all the worlds found in Kingdom Hearts II. Gaming giant Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts franchise is one of the most beloved game series in history. Based around an unlikely but extremely popular fusion of original Square Enix and familiar Disney characters, the first Kingdom Hearts game was released in 2002. Since then, Square Enix has released twelve more installments in the Kingdom Hearts series and the franchise has grown to include a trading card game, a manga and a series of novels.
Square Enix may have released the much-hyped Kingdom Hearts III earlier in 2019 – featuring new Pixar characters to boot – but Kingdom Hearts II remains the best-loved installment over a decade since it was released. The game picked up a year after the events of the previous edition Kingdom Hearts: Chain Of Memories and saw protagonist Sora team up once again with Goofy and Donald Duck to find his missing friends Riku and Kairi, while battling the nefarious Organization XIII.

The World That Never Was
Kingdom Hearts II featured the return of several worlds featured in previous games like the original world Twilight Town, which was first introduced in Kingdom Hearts: Chain Of Memories but played a greater role in Kingdom Hearts II. Other returning worlds include The Little Mermaid inspired Atlantica, the Winnie The Pooh inspired world 100 Acre Woods and Halloween Town, which borrows from Henry Selick’s classic stop-motion animation The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Several brand-new Disney worlds made their debut in Kingdom Hearts II as well. The Land Of Dragons was inspired by the 1998 Disney film Mulan and Beast’s Castle world was based on Beauty And The Beast. The Lion King provided the basis for Pride Lands while Space Paranoids was Tron-themed. The then recently released Disney movie Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl inspired the Port Royal world, while the golden oldie Steamboat Willie was the basis for Timeless River. The World That Never Was is a Kingdom Hearts II world designed specifically for the game and the headquarters of the shady Organization XIII.
