Ahead of the final episode of Kim's Convenience, star Simu Liu shares his thoughts on the show's cancellation and says fans deserved a proper goodbye. Later this year, Liu will become a Marvel star with the long-awaited release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Before that, though, Liu is best known for his role on the beloved Canadian sitcom Kim's Convenience. Created by Ins Choi and Kevin White (and based on a play written by Choi), the series is centered on a Korean Canadian family running a convenience store in downtown Toronto.

With its debut on Netflix, Kim's Convenience reached an even wider audience and became a fan favorite sitcom. It was expected the show would continue on beyond its fifth season, so many were blindsided by the opposite news. Kim's Convenience will end after season 5, which has been airing on CBC since January. When the cancellation was announced, Liu posted a lengthy statement on social media declaring his disappointment and his belief that his journey as Jung, the estranged son of the Kim family, had been cut short.

On Tuesday, the night before the airing of the Kim's Convenience series finale, Liu once again took to social media to speak about the abrupt cancellation. Despite his hopes that "I'd be at a point where I could speak about it with a clear head," Liu admitted he's still "pretty f**king angry." He reaffirmed that fans deserved a better, proper ending and, in a follow-up tweet, wrote, "I have thoughts about our 'cancellation', and they come with tea and receipts. For now, they will remain in my head." You can see Liu's posts in the space below.

When Kim's Convenience's cancellation was announced, it was said Choi and White's departure as they moved onto other projects was the reason the show was ending. Liu's comments, however, seem to indicate more was going on behind the scenes. For the time being, everything is speculation, and it will remain that way until Liu chooses to elaborate on his words. Nevertheless, he's still frustrated with how Kim's Convenience is ending, and he certainly isn't the only one. Hopefully, the Kim's Convenience season 5 finale will at least provide some closure to those still reeling from the cancellation news.

Liu's sentiments regarding Kim's Convenience and its impending finish are understandable, particularly since the series has been praised for its heartwarming story and diversity. At the same time, who knows what the future holds? Beloved shows have been known to score revivals these days, and Liu's role in Shang-Chi could help draw in new viewers to the show on Netflix. Right now, Kim's Convenience is closing up shop, but perhaps more could emerge in the future.
