Kardashian attended the event in a skin-tight black Balenciaga catsuit with a train and a bold black mask that hid the makeup mogul’s face. Despite the assumed anonymity everyone immediately recognized the Met Gala guest as Kim Kardashian. Why would I want to cover my face?" Balenciaga’s creative director, Denma Gvasalia insisted on the mask as an integral feature of the outfit. Kim revealed that the designer and creative team persisted, “the team was like, 'This is a costume gala. This is not a Vanity Fair party where everyone looks beautiful. There's a theme and you have to wear the mask. That is the look.'”
A source reported to People at the time of the Met Gala that despite Kanye not being in attendance at the Met Gala, the KUWTK star’s ex-husband was there in spirit. "It was Kanye who introduced Kim to Demna and was instrumental in the newly formed relationship between her and Balenciaga," the source revealed. The source also expressed that the form-fitting Balenciaga look is a new trend and statement because no one needs to see the trademark Kardashian brand to recognize Kardashian’s silhouette and presence. Due to Kardashian’s continued relationship with Balenciaga’s brand, the Met Gala and SNL looks might be the first of many to come.
