Kim Kardashian is finally speaking up about the backlash she received for saying that "nobody wants to work" in a Variety interview while promoting her new Hulu show, The Kardashians. In early March, Kim made a lot of people angry when she gave advice to businesswomen on how to succeed in the business world. The reality tv star claimed to have "the best advice" for women and went on to say, "get your f***ing ass up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days." Unfortunately, her advice was not well received, and many fans found it ignorant and disrespectful to all the hardworking women in the world who weren't born into wealth like Kim was.

Many people also shared their toxic and negative experiences while working for Kim, either for one of her businesses or on Keeping Up With The KardashiansFans also drew attention to an ongoing case Kim's former housekeeper has filed against her and the irony of her comments regarding how the housekeeper claims the mogul treated him. The soundbite from the interview was passed around online hundreds of thousands of times, with many social media users turning it into viral memes. Kim's comments were even referenced at the 2022 Oscars by host Regina Hall.

After weeks of backlash and jokes, Kim has finally responded. The KKW Beauty founder spoke to Robin Roberts on Good Morning America about her comments, saying they were taken out of context. According to Kim, the comments she made "became a soundbite really with no context." What the Variety video didn't include was the question Kim was asked, which triggered her response. The question was, "after twenty years of being in the business, you're famous for being famous." The mother of four explained that her entire tone changed after the disrespectful comment, and she was simply trying to prove that she actually is a very hard worker.

Kim apologized for how her comment was received and explained what her true intention was. The star wanted everyone to know that having a social media presence and a reality show doesn't equal immediate success. It actually requires hard work to succeed the way Kim has, and she wanted her audience to know it's not as easy as it seems. The SKIMS founder never meant to discredit all the hardworking women in the world and confirmed that she knows how hard they all work, her comments were simply taken out of context.

Hopefully, fans can forgive Kim for what she said now that they've heard her side of the story. Given the context, her comments feel much more justified than they did a few weeks ago. The Kardashian-Jenners have been criticized from the start of their careers for "being famous for being famous." However, it requires hard work to sustain any career, and the family is constantly discredited for their work ethic and business mentality. While The Kardashians star was certainly born into privilege, that doesn't mean she hasn't worked hard to build her own brand. Kim may have been able to explain herself this time, but next time she could definitely choose her words more carefully.
