Kim Kardashian of Keeping Up with the Kardashians revealed that she cried the "whole way home" from the 2013 Met Gala after the internet went wild with mean memes about her look. The reality TV star wasn't expecting that kind of reaction from people.
Since their show first aired in 2007, the Kardashian family has been entertaining the reality TV audiences, with Kim at the center of it all. The beauty mogul married rapper Kanye West in 2014, which was featured on season 9 of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Currently, the couple has four children - North, 6, Saint, 3, followed by daughter Chicago, 20-months, and four-month-old Psalm. When Kanye performed at the 2013 Met Gala, Kim joined him as his plus-one and she wore an outfit that no one can forget, especially not her.
Kim's infamous 2013 Met Gala dress was a high-neck floral, long-sleeved gown designed by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy. Kim was very pregnant with her first child, North, at the time of the gala. In a video for US Vogue magazine (via Harper's Bazaar), Kim ran through some of her most iconic looks and this floral gown was one of the most memorable ones - both good and bad reasons. When Kim began to speak about her 2013 look, she recalled, "I was very pregnant, very puffy, and bloated and I was like, 'Oh god, of course, the first time I go I'm gonna be huge.'" However, the designer made the gown out of stretchy comfortable fabric so it would fit her growing belly.
Kim revealed that there were orignally two looks, an all-black look or the floral look, and ultimately it was Riccardo who talked her into it. The 39-year-old reality TV star recalled the fact that she felt "too insecure" at the time to stick up for herself, so she went with the floral look. As she was leaving the Met Gala, she saw people's reactions on the internet where they had made mean memes about her gown having similar fabric to a couch or comparing her to Mrs. Doubtfire's dress. The reality star revealed, "I was crying, like, the whole way home because I just couldn’t believe it. There were all these memes about me and this couch." She revealed that it was when Robin Williams himself tweeted the meme that made it so hard on her, she said, "I think Robin Williams even tweeted it, said I looked like Mrs. Doubtfire. It was like this whole thing, so I just cried." However, as time heals the wounds, Kim is more excited about the look than ever, saying, "Now I love it, now it's sick."
The fashion icon that Kim has become revealed that back then she never thought she' ever get an opportunity to attend the exclusive event and was overjoyed when she was invited. The theme of the 2013 Met Gala was Punk: Chaos to Couture and it seemed that it describes perfectly Kim's experiences. First, it blew up the internet in a huge chaotic mess, then, in time, it became couture. The risk-taker, fashion icon has been attending the Met Gala every year since.
