The trailer shows off Scorsese's stunning film, including a look at Brendan Fraser, who will appear in the film after winning the Best Actor Oscar for The Whale. The footage also revealed that DiCaprio will be playing a serial killer hunting members of the Osage nation. Jesse Plemons' FBI character heads down to Oklahoma, where he is investigating the string of murders that will come to be known as the Reign of Terror.

Killers of the Flower Moon True Story: The Real Reign of Terror Explained

The first Killers of the Flower Moon footage screened at CinemaCon reveals some important details about the unbelievable true story on which Scorsese's latest film is based. DiCaprio's character, Ernest Burkhart, allegedly murdered his Osage wife, Mollie, and her family members in order to inherit access to their oil-rich native land. The murders in Oklahoma started to gain the attention of those in Washington D.C. as Plemons' character, Tom White, is sent down to investigate. The brutal crimes, which came to be known as the Reign of Terror, sparked a major FBI investigation spearheaded by a young J. Edgar Hoover.

With the Killers of the Flower Moon runtime clocking in 3 hours and 26 minutes, which is three minutes shorter than Scorsese's last film The Irishman, it should have plenty of time to properly tell its tragic story. Based on the first footage description, it sounds like Scorsese's latest film is a mashup of his bread-and-butter, the gangster genre, with a Western in a shocking true story about the conflict between oil-hungry men and the Osage Nation. Scorsese says Killers of the Flower Moon was designed to be seen on a big screen where it will be starting this October.
