Comic book fans have been highly anticipating the birth of a new era in DC Comics film, the DC Comics Extended Universe, kicking into high gear this year with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and the Suicide Squad. The CW is giving fans an exciting event; tonight, you can tune in at 9:30 PM eastern/8:30 PM central to see DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League!

The event is set to be hosted by Geoff Johns and ultimate fanboy, writer, director and host of the Fatman on Batman podcast, Kevin Smith. Smith recently gave a preview of what to expect tonight on his podcast, dishing on what stars will be featured and what new footage we can expect to see:

"They show footage, new footage of Batman v Superman, they show footage from the Wonder Woman movie that they're shooting right now, which includes shots of Wonder Woman in action doing some s**t you've never seen before. Then the whole f**king thing wraps up with the debut of the Suicide Squad trailer."

Wonder Woman Gal Gadot Chris Pine 2017

The special is going to feature interviews with stars Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman). Fans will also hear from the director of Batman V Superman, Zack Snyder and Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins.

The upcoming 2017 Wonder Woman film is one of the more anticipated portions of the new DC Comics film universe, since this marks the first time she has had her own solo live-action movie. In fact, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice marks Wonder Woman's feature film debut. She is a long overdue addition to the big screen world of superheroes, but with so much time and anticipation does come a lot of fan expectations to fill. Hopefully, the new footage will continue to excite fans of the Amazonian warrior princess.

Smith also gave his take on the Suicide Squad film, being the only person to have seen the new trailer thus far:

"I think this is their Guardians of the Galaxy. It's going to be a sneak f**king stealth hit."

The analogy that Kevin Smith is making may be right on the money. Guardians of the Galaxy was a sleeper hit for Marvel and was far from a sure thing when the studio decided to take a chance on the film. The success of Guardians showed just how much draw the lesser known characters of the comic book world can have, given the right platform. The Suicide Squad movie is absolutely the black sheep of the new DCEU, for related reasons.

Then there are films that are sure to be a hit, like Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League and the long awaited first Wonder Woman solo film. If the DC movie universe is a family, then Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League heroes are the parents and the Suicide Squad are the rebellious teenagers. The inclusion of the Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) are likely going to the factors that seal the success of the film.
