Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige reveals how the Marvel Cinematic Universe still manages to succeed despite all the leaks that constantly plague MCU projects. The MCU is easily the most successful film franchise of all time, and the franchise has only grown more omnipresent with the addition of Disney+ streaming series like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and most recently Moon Knight. With the fanbase for the MCU ever-growing, more and more viewers are hungry to see what's next, often leading to leaks and spoilers.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to open in theaters in less than a week, and ahead of the film's Hollywood premiere, leaks for the movie have already started to make their way online. The first look at Thor: Love and Thunder's villain, Gorr the God Butcher, was kept out of the trailer but was already revealed in toy concept art. Despite all of Marvel's best efforts to keep things secret, even training actors how to avoid spoilers in interviews, it is almost an impossibility with how most people have instant access to the internet.

During the press tour for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, via The Direct, Feige spoke about how Marvel Studios handles spoilers, leaks, and the impacts they have on the films. He is candid, admitting that they can't always keep everything under wraps, but assures the studio always still delivers a quality film that can stand on its own even if something is spoiled. Feige says the movie should work on any level, regardless of if the viewers know everything going in or nothing. Feige said:

"The unfortunate truth is you don't [ keep it all under wraps], and therefore you need to make sure that the experience itself works regardless of what has been spoiled or not. We still do as good of a job as we can. I think a lot of people are getting good at not spreading it. Somebody steals something, don't spread it around because it just potentially lessens the experience. But in a lot of ways, No Way Home showed us that it did not lessen the experience. So we will continue to do the best that we can, but the most important thing is still delivering the movie or show that delivers regardless of what you know going in."

Marvel Studios has certainly done its best to keep its projects' secrets under wraps. For the release of both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame Marvel even released statements asking the fans not to spoil the viewing experience. Some actors aren't given full scripts of the films to make sure nothing gets leaked online. Even the trailer for Avengers: Endgame was purposely vague and showcased only the opening act of the film so as to not spoil the movie's big moments.

Marvel Studios has proven, for the most part, adept at keeping secrets under wraps, but it's safe to say the movies are successful for more than just the surprise factor. While Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield being in Spider-Man: No Way Home might have been the worst kept secret in film history, the six weeks it speant at number one at the box office, along with its $1.8 billion worldwide gross, showed that audiences loved the film and went back multiple times even when they knew the surprise. This focus on characters and making strong films that stand on their own is the true success of the MCU.
