Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, wants Black Widow's David Harbour and Rachel Weisz back for more MCU installments. Playing in theaters for a week now, Marvel’s first Phase 4 film flashes back a few years to answer the question of what Natasha Romanoff was up to between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Black Widow even flashes back further than that to Nat’s childhood with Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and their surrogate parents, Alexei Shostakov a.k.a. Red Guardian (David Harbour) and Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz).

In Scarlett Johansson’s final portrayal of the character, Black Widow gives Natasha a well-deserved sendoff in the form of one last adventure. Hellbent on seeking revenge against the Red Room overseer General Dreykov, Natasha must reunite with her makeshift Russian family to enlist their help in finding the location of the top-secret Soviet training program. Alexei, the Russian equivalent of Captain America, and Melina, a scientist who specializes in mind-controlling chemicals, prove to be more than valuable in this quest.

Now, as a guest on the D23 Inside Disney podcast (via The Direct), Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed Harbour and Weisz’s futures in the MCU. Feige says it is always the intention with new characters that they "hopefully go forth one day within a future storyline." When asked about Melina and Alexei specifically, he said "it's a safe bet" they will make appearances in the future. Read Feige's full comments below:

It is always the intention that when characters come in, and great great actors come in to the universe, if we have a great time with them, the audience did, that you always want to see them again. I think it's a safe bet that we definitely want that to happen.

Black Widow’s new characters had plenty of time to shine throughout Natasha’s first and final solo outing, as the dysfunctional family dynamic was one of the film’s highlights. With Natasha sadly out of the picture considering her fate suffered in Avengers: Endgame, the door remains wide open for future appearances from her surrogate family. The film’s post-credits scene positions Yelena to take on the Black Widow mantle and sets up her role in the Disney+ series, Hawkeye.

A Red Guardian spinoff film has actually already garnered some interest from Black Widow’s director Cate Shortland, but with the MCU’s phase 4 schedule already packed to the gills with movies and shows, it may be many years until this could happen. Harbour’s schedule also has to be taken into account, as he maintains a recurring role on Stranger Things. However, if Feige says that Harbour and Weisz will make appearances in the future, the Marvel boss should probably be taken at his word.
