Obi-Wan Kenobi continues a Disney Star Wars trend by further insisting Yoda was correct about Leia Organa being "another" hope in The Empire Strikes Back. The crux of the Star Wars saga for over 40 years has been the Skywalker family. From Anakin in the prequel trilogy to Rey and Kylo Ren in the sequels, the Skywalker Saga has been the central focus of the franchise. This began, however, with the central hero of the original trilogy, Luke Skywalker, but arguably just as important is his twin sister, Princess Leia.
One thing Disney’s sequel trilogy certainly allowed for, despite their divisive reception among Star Wars fans, was a greater focus on other legacy characters. While Luke had his fair share of screen time in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Han Solo received an emotional arc in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the often under-appreciated Leia Organa got a lot of new material across the sequel trilogy as well. This, combined with a certain reaffirmation in Obi-Wan Kenobi, proves Yoda has always been right with his claim about the Skywalker sibling.
One line threw the Star Wars fandom into endless theories and discourse in 1980: “No, there is another.” Yoda says this in The Empire Strikes Back in response to Obi-Wan stating that Luke is their last hope against the Empire. At the time, many were confused about whom Yoda was talking about. However, with the confirmation that Luke and Leia are siblings coming three years later, in Return of the Jedi, the queries were answered. Yoda has always known of Leia’s importance to the Skywalker family and the galaxy at large, an importance that is only reinforced by Leia’s adoptive father Bail Organa in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 1. After Leia is kidnapped by Vect Nehru, Bail contacts Obi-Wan for help, insisting that Leia is just as important to the galaxy as Luke is. This spurs Obi-Wan into action, leading him to Daiyu and finding out Leia and Luke’s father, Anakin/Darth Vader, is still alive.
Disney has showcased Leia a lot more since their acquisition of Lucasfilm. The princess appeared in some episodes of Star Wars: Rebels, was confirmed to have powerful force abilities in The Last Jedi, and was given her own lightsaber and personal trainer in Luke, as seen in The Rise of Skywalker. Bail’s insistence on Leia’s importance then, alongside all of the extra Leia content in Disney Star Wars media, only proves that Yoda was correct all those years ago.
It makes sense that Yoda, of all beings, would hold Leia’s importance on the same level as Luke’s. Yoda's species ages differently, meaning he is over 900 years old, having lived through the High Republic and served in the Clone Wars. Given this, Yoda has trained many generations of Jedi. The fact that Yoda knows Leia is on equal footing with Luke despite training thousands of young Jedi over the years solidifies her importance. Alongside Bail Organa’s pleas in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Leia’s vitality to the Star Wars universe only continues to grow with Disney's expansion of the universe on Disney+.
