If the opportunity presented itself, Kenneth Branagh would be interested in making another comic book movie. Branagh is an award-winning actor and director, but one of his greatest contributions to cinema was directing Thor in 2011, bringing the Norse god to the screen and introducing one of the most memorable Avengers yet. The director has strayed away from making comic book movies since then, but he has stayed close to projects in the fantasy realm, setting himself up to easily transition back to the sensational comic book world.

As of late, Branagh has been on a directing spree. His sci-fi fantasy film, Artemis Fowl, is coming to Disney+ this week. That's one of two projects he is set to premiere this year, with Death on the Nile, a follow-up to 2017's Murder on the Orient Express, maintaining an October release date despite the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic. Nevertheless, Thor was a project dear to him, one he evidently still thinks about despite not working with the character since 2011 (outside of an uncredited voice cameo in Infinity War).

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Branagh admitted he would jump at the right opportunity to direct another comic book movie. He called the chance to do another film in the genre a "thrill" and said "maybe" in regards to doing another one. While that's far from a firm commitment, it will certainly get major studios talking about bringing him in down the road. Branagh also had praise for various directions the character of Thor has been taken in over the past decade.

Besides being a titan of the industry, Branagh's name would bring appeal to studios due to the seamless introduction of a major franchise character and the promising performance of Thor in theaters. The film had a $150 million budget, but made almost triple that at the box office. Thor also holds a 77 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, 11 points better than the sequel, Thor: The Dark World.

If there's one thing that's for sure, Branagh has no issues working with the big studios that are typically responsible for comic book movies. Artemis Fowl is a Walt Disney Pictures production. So was the live-action take on Cinderella, which came out back in 2015. Branagh also directed Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit in 2014. Some directors have had brilliant takes on Thor over the years, chief among them Taika Waititi. There may not be an opportunity to direct another Thor, but directing another comic book movie seems like a great match for Kenneth Branagh.
