Saturday Night Live featured a reboot of Kenan & Kel, which has left fans clamoring for the real thing. Keke Palmer hosted the December 3rd edition of SNL, which features SZA as a musical guest, and the Nope star helped elevate the NBC sketch show with one of its best recent episodes. Even though SNL season 48 has struggled to generate consistent buzz, Palmer's hosting stint included a number of memorable moments. That includes a reboot of the seminal 1990s sitcom Kenan & Kel, except that SNL's gritty updated version hilariously misunderstands what made the original so popular.

The sketch, which reunited Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, begins with Palmer pitching Thompson a reboot of Kenan & Kel. Things get weird from there, with Thompson joking that Palmer was aiming for an Emmy win by making the new version more dramatic. It builds to Mitchell's triumphant appearance, at which point the reboot gets even more twisty and absurd. The video of the SNL segment is included below, as well as fans expressing their fondness for Thompson and Mitchell.

What Are Kenan & Kel Working On Today?

Good Burger

To go along with its recent 20th anniversary, there has been a lot of talk about a Good Burger sequel. Thompson and Mitchell have shared updates on the project, including a look at the script page. Though there has long been attempts to make a franchise out of Good Burger, including talks of an animated series, this effort has gained traction — particularly as the screenplay is already finished.

Could A Kenan & Kel Reboot Actually Happen?

kenan and kel

Back in 2016, to celebrate the show's 20th anniversary, Thompson expressed an openness to rebooting Kenan & Kel. The veteran of Saturday Night Live said that he wished he could revive the comedy as Kenan & Kel: The Grown-Up Years. Thompson explained that it would be an awesome experience for everyone involved, pointing to the off-screen chemistry that has made Thompson and Mitchell such an enduring pair over the past few decades — from their time on Nickelodeon's All That to Kenan supporting Kel on Dancing with the Stars and now SNL.

It might not be exactly a revival of Kenan & Kel, albeit the pair is still collaborating and may well lead another project together soon in the Good Burger sequel. As the online reaction makes clear, even though their sitcom has been off the air for more than 20 years, their fanbase remains excited to see them working together, and rightfully so. Their most recent Saturday Night Live reunion proves that the magic is still there.
