In his latest Twitter spree, Kanye West claimed he would help longtime enemy Taylor Swift with getting rights to her original music from music exec Scooter Braun.
"I'M GOING TO PERSONALLY SEE TO IT THAT TAYLOR SWIFT GETS HER MASTERS BACK. SCOOTER IS A CLOSE FAMILY FRIEND,” the husband of Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Kim Kardashian West wrote on Twitter, amidst a series of questionable tweets that has left the internet asking everything about him, from the stability of his marriage to his mental health. This is the first time in a little while that the rapper has resorted to all caps in his tweet, despite some pretty serious Twitter rants and behavior in the recent weeks; West has been tweeting up a storm about his very public fight against the music industry to own the right to his own music, including posting a text exchange with someone who appears to be a lawyer giving him legal advice that he should follow Swift’s lead and either try to buy his masters or re-record them.
Earlier this week, West created quite a buzz when he shared a video of himself peeing on his own Grammy, stating "Trust me ... I WONT STOP." That move got him kicked off of the social media platform for 12 hours, which he also later tweeted about, calling on his friend Rick Fox to share the news on his behalf, while he was still banned from the platform.
West and Swift have had no shortage of beef over the years, which began in 2009 at the Grammy Awards when West famously jumped on stage during Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Video by a Female Artist and told her, “I’mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!” Meanwhile, cameras caught Beyonce looking mortified and mouthing, “Oh, Kanye”, with her jaw wide open.
Since then, tensions have lingered between the two, and came to an all-time high as the two began referencing each other in their music; Swift sang “32, and still growing up now” a year later on “Innocent,” while West gave a “toast to the douchebags” on “Runaway” – and in interviews. In 2015, the duo publicly buried the hatchet at the VMAs when Swift presented West with his Video Vanguard Award. But West rattled any peace between the two in 2016 when he released The Life of Pablo, which he states in his lyrics in the song “Famous,” “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/Why? I made that bitch famous/Goddamn, I made that bitch famous.” Although West has since claimed he asked permission from Swift to use those lyrics, Swift has claimed that was not the case.
That moment, which was followed by countless others riffs between the two, has culminated in this week’s latest Twitter raid, which leads one to believe West is now looking to help Swift despite all the years of feuding. Is his promise genuine, or is it just another attempt to win back Swift and the public's approval? Will Swift respond to his latest social media rant? Only time will tell.
