Last week on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim had no other choice but to fix the situation that was her daughter's dead hamster. However, it took Kim some time before she even bothered getting involved.
A few weeks back, Khloé decided it was a good idea to get North whatever she wanted in order to make her happy, and North insisted that she'd only be satisfied with a pet hamster. In fact, this wasn't just a run-of-the-mill hamster purchase, but one with a lavish, castle-inspired princess cage. And, despite Khloe's best efforts to get on North's good side, Kim wasn't exactly pleased, commenting on Twitter about the whole scenario about how she couldn't "believe Khloe let North talk her into getting a hamster.” Nevertheless, the purchase didn't last long, as the hamster eventually died.
On the season 16, episode 9 holiday special of Keeping Up with the Kardashians titled "Christmas Chaos," Kim's assistant Michael informed Kim that North's new pet hamster wasn't moving - and was presumed dead. However, Kim appeared as though she couldn't be bothered, informing Michael that she doesn't "have time for dead hamsters." Still, Kim made some efforts to determine whether or not the hamster was really dead, poking it with a pen, and finally confirmed with Khloé that it had passed, saying, "Ew. The hamster is dead."
Kim spent the remainder of the episode attempting to fix the situation and keep North from finding out the truth about her new pet. Beyond frustrated, and telling Khloé that "This is the kind of sh*t I can't deal with," Kim first made the attempt to pretend everything was fine, and to see if North would even notice. However, after North refused to accept that her new pet was dead (insisting that it was only sleeping), Kim resorted to another plan.
Instead of trying to convince North that the hamster had died, Kim told North that she was bringing it to the vet for observation - though in truth, she recruited Khloé to help her replace the dead hamster. Together, they did their best to find an identical replacement, a fancy bear hamster with a white stripe (which Khloé referred to as "The unicorn of hamsters" on account of how rare it is). At long last, they found the best possible replacement at PetSmart and successfully convinced North that all was well.
Though everything worked out in the end, Kim made it clear that this would never happen again, saying "When this one dies, we are facing the facts of life." And, in the end, the morale of the story might have been "Ignorance is bliss," but the most noticeable takeaway on this episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians was that Kim and Khloé had been misspelling "hamster" their whole lives.
