Caitlyn Jenner sat down with Sean Hannity amid her run for Governor of California where she put her controversial views on full display. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians alum riled up the public after speaking out against trans women in sports, homelessness, and a number of other issues she deemed topic-worthy. As Caitlyn moves forward with her campaign to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom, there appears to be more opposition towards her entering office.
In the last two weeks since announcing her campaign, Caitlyn's three sons have expressed their embarrassment, Kim Kardashian has said how disturbed she is by Caitlyn's views on prison reform, and the public has called her out over her recent comments on the transgender community. Despite announcing her own transition in 2015, Caitlyn has struggled to gain support from the LGBTQ+ community due to her "traditional" conservative views. With her being a proud Republican, Sean Hannity welcomed her with open arms to his Fox News show.
The reality star appeared on Hannity over the week where she made her official debut as a gubernatorial candidate. Her choice to appear on the platform seemingly reflected her aims to align herself with his right-wing pro-Donald Trump audience. She even further expressed her support for the former commander-in-chief during their chat, “What I liked about Donald Trump is he was a disruptor, you know,” she said. “He came in and shook the system up, OK," she said, Deadline reports. She also defended Trump's controversial border wall in response to illegal immigration. “I am all for the wall, I would secure the wall,” she said. “We can’t have a state, we can’t have a country without a secure wall."
But it was the reiteration of her views on transgender women competing in female sports, and homelessness in Los Angeles that rubbed many the wrong way. After saying how she wants to be "a role model" for the trans community, Hannity reminded her how upset many people are with her over her most recent remarks. “That’s that, I don’t care. I move on," Caitlyn replied. She then recalled one of her friends relocating to Arizona to avoid seeing the growing homelessness issue in LA. “My friends are leaving California," she said, adding that they "can’t take it anymore. I can’t walk down the streets and see the homeless.’” She noted how she has the option to "stay and fight, or I get out of here.”
Once journalist, Aaron Rupar, shared clips of the interview on Twitter, Caitlyn became the target of public outcry. "California will be some fools if they even think of putting Jenner in the governor's chair," one person said. "what is more relatable than your hangar-mate leaving because of their distaste for the poor," added another. If Caitlyn's recent interview was an attempt to build a solid support base, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star might want to consider a different approach. The people are talking and it doesn't appear to be in Caitlyn's favor.
