Kim Kardashian West and Kendall Jenner were laughed at during the Emmys after calling Keeping Up With The Kardashians "unscripted." The whole debacle began when the sisters tried to sincerely explain how their own family’s show was impromptu.

The popular E! show has been airing since 2007 and stars Khloe, Kourtney, Kim, Kris, Kylie Jenner, and Kendall Jenner. The show has made it to its 17th season, all of which have documented the highs and lows of the Kardashian/Jenner family. The goal of the show was to express to fans that family always comes first, and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest was the mastermind behind the show's creation, pitching the family drama to the network.

While presenting the award for Best Reality TV Show Competition at the 2019 Emmy Awards, Kim and Kendall told a joke they didn't seem entirely in on. It seems the reality stars had been in pure denial that their own show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, was a scripted show. The beauty mogul addressed the audience by saying her family knows firsthand how interesting television is derived from real people, just being who they are. As the crowd laughed, Kendall seemed noticeably annoyed.

According to Us Weekly, fans took to social media to mock the sisters. To their dismay, they seemed to have made the entire audience crack up at the absurdity of really believing that their own show had not been a scripted series. Some viewers did stand up for them, saying that they should be respected and that the audience was rude in their reaction. Whether it was actually meant to be funny, however, remains to be seen.

Ironically, the sisters got a real taste of what it's like to be involved in a genuinely improvised TV moment. In the end, though, the laughter was lighthearted and nothing that either Kim or Kendall should take personally. Both are busy enough with their personal lives to take something so insignificant to heart; Kim is busy studying to become a lawyer like her father, while Kendall is the highest-paid model world. Surely, no matter what the reception to Keeping Up with the Kardashians might be, neither of these achievements is something to laugh at.
